Charlotte, NC (Best E Casino) - Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte has been awarded the 2017 PGA Championship. The course, featuring one of the toughest three-hole finishes in golf, has hosted a popular PGA Tour event since 2003. It will become the third North Carolina venue to host the PGA Championship, joining Pinehurst (1936) and Tanglewood (1974). "We're especially proud to host an event that has the history and tradition of the PGA Championship. It is one of America's truly great championships," said John W. Harris, president of the club's board of governors. Quail Hollow will host the 99th PGA Championship. No stranger to big events, it has been the host of a well-attended PGA Tour stop since 2003. The tournament, which will be called the Wells Fargo Championship in 2011, has drawn top-flight fields to Charlotte for a lucrative purse. The winners since 2003 have included Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Anthony Kim, Vijay Singh, Sean O'Hair, David Toms and Joey Sindelar. Rory McIlroy won this year's tournament -- called the Quail Hollow Championship -- when he fired a course-record 62 in the final round to beat Phil Mickelson by four shots.
