Casper, WY (Best E Casino) - Wyoming has named Dave Christensen its new head football coach.

Christensen will leave his job as the Missouri offensive coordinator to take over for Joe Glenn, who was fired after six seasons at the helm. First, though, Christensen will coach in the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday when the Tigers play Oklahoma. He'll also coach Missouri in a bowl game before coming to Wyoming.

His contract as new head coach of the Cowboys will pay him a base salary of $180,000 per year for five years. With academic, competitive and revenue incentives, Christensen's total package could exceed $750,000 per year.

Christensen has spent the past eight seasons at Missouri and has coached under Gary Pinkel since 1992 when the two were at Toledo. He has also been an assistant at Idaho State and Washington on the collegiate level.

"I can't tell you how excited I am to be given the opportunity to lead the Wyoming Cowboy football program," said Christensen. "The opportunity to become a head coach is something I've been preparing for my entire career."

Glenn finished his Wyoming tenure with a record of 30-41, including 4-8 this past season.
