West Lafayette, IN (Best E Casino) - Justin Siller's 28-yard touchdown pass to Desmond Tardy with 26 seconds remaining proved to be the game winner as the Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 48-42, in a Big Ten Conference matchup at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Siller finished the afternoon 21-of-34 passing for 266 yards and three touchdowns, while Kory Sheets paced the Purdue (3-6, 1-4 Big Ten) ground attack, carrying the ball 30 times for 128 yards and three scores.

Brandon Minor carried Michigan (2-7, 1-4) on offense, racking up 155 yards and three touchdowns on 24 rushing attempts. Quarterback Steven Threet completed 9-of-21 passing for 123 yards and two scores. The outcome guarantees a losing record for the Wolverines, something that has not occurred since the 1967 season when they finished 4-6. Michigan also became ineligible for a postseason berth, marking the first time since 1974 that the Wolverines will not be making a bowl appearance.

Michigan opened up the scoring early in the first half when Minor ripped through the Purdue defense for a 45-yard touchdown run. Martavious Odoms gave the Wolverines a 14-0 lead minutes later with a 73-yard punt return for a score.

Purdue closed the gap later in the first frame, with a two-yard scoring run by Sheets. The Boilermakers then tied the game in the closing minutes of the first quarter on a 10-yard touchdown run by Siller.

Michigan opened up the second frame scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Threet to LaTerryal Savoy. Threet struck again seven minutes later with a 51-yard scoring strike to Darryl Stonum.

Purdue closed to within seven points at 28-21 as Sheets pounded the ball in from the three-yard line for his second score of the day with 35 seconds remaining in the first half.

On the opening drive of the second half the Boilermakers tied the game up as Siller connected with Sheets on a seven-yard TD strike. Sheets made it into the end zone himself late in the third on a five-yard run to give the Boilermakers a 35-28 lead after three quarters.

Michigan kicked off the fourth quarter scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run by Minor, capping a six-play, 42-yard drive.

Purdue answered moments later with a four-yard strike from Siller to Greg Orton, giving the Boilermakers a seven-point advantage. Orton finished the day with a game-high eight catches for 89 yards.

Minor kept the Wolverines in the game, tying the score at 42-42 with a one- yard touchdown run in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, setting the stage for the game-winning score by Purdue which covered 73 yards in just 54 seconds.

Purdue racked up 522 yards of total offense on the day, while limiting the Wolverines to just 300 yards and barely 22 minutes of ball possession.
