Auburn Hills, MI (Best E Casino) - Tayshaun Prince finished with a team-high 19 points to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 100-94 win over the Indiana Pacers in both teams' season opener.

Chauncey Billups added 13 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Pistons, who advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals last season for the third straight year but bowed out to eventual NBA champion Boston.

Richard Hamilton added 15 points for the Pistons, who won in the head coaching debut of Michael Curry.

Danny Granger had a game-high 33 points and Troy Murphy brought down 15 boards to go with 13 points for the Pacers, who last season finished just 36-46. T.J. Ford, who came to Indiana in an offseason trade with Toronto that sent former Pacers mainstay Jermaine O'Neal to the Raptors, totaled 10 points and five assists.

The Pacers entered the fourth quarter down by double-digits, and went down 80-64 after Jason Maxiell converted a three-point play shortly into the final stanza.

But Granger scored four straight and Murphy followed with a three-pointer to cut the deficit under 10. It started a 13-2 run that ended when Murphy made 1-of-2 free throws with seven minutes remaining, bringing the Pacers within 82-77.

The Pistons couldn't pull away, but held off the Pacers, and Hamilton made a pair from the free throw line with 12 ticks remaining to put Detroit up six, helping to seal the win.

A back-and-forth first quarter saw the Pistons go up 23-17 after Prince drained a jumper in the closing seconds.

Indiana managed to get back within a possession, but the Pistons closed the half with five straight points. Maxiell's free throws at the end gave Detroit a 50-40 lead at the break.

A run of six points for the Pacers got them within just two points, on a Granger layup and free throws, which came back-to-back. The foul shots drew Indiana within 60-58 with 4:41 remaining.

But Detroit once again closed the period strong, on a 12-4 run, and Rodney Stuckey's three-point play put the Pistons ahead 75-64 headed into the fourth.

Game Notes
