Philadelphia, PA (Best E Casino) - ARMY - It wasn't pretty, but the Black Knights found a way to win for the third time in their last four games. Sure, rain and wind played a part in their 14-7 win over Louisiana Tech. But most of the credit has to go to the Army defense, which held the Bulldogs to 152 yards of total offense. It was also the second straight week the Black Knights have registered five sacks in a game. On offense, Ian Smith finished with 55 total yards and scored twice (one rushing, one receiving). As a team, the Black Knights ran for 203 yards, but that total has more to do with Army's persistence on running the ball (56 carries) than it does with the offensive line's performance. On the season, the team ranks eighth in the nation in rushing offense (247 ypg) and dead last in passing (45 ypg). Up next for the Black Knights is a big bout with Air Force. NAVY - It was only a matter of time, one would figure, before the Midshipmen went through four quarters of a game without attempting a single pass. They did just that in Saturday's 34-7 win over SMU, as coach Ken Niumatalolo dialed up 77 running plays and zero pass plays. It's been 11 years since a FBS team has played 60 minutes without attempting a single pass (Ohio University in 1997). Heavy rains played a big factor in the flow of the game. So did Navy's running game, led by Ricky Dobbs, who churned out 224 yards and four TDs on 42 carries. Dobbs, it should be noted is a third-string quarterback. He was filling in for starter Jarod Bryant, who went down with a shoulder injury in the first quarter. Navy will take on Temple this weekend. NOTRE DAME - The bye week appeared to have served the Fighting Irish well, as they went on the road and topped former coach Tyrone Willingham and the Washington Huskies, 33-7. Notre Dame has now won three of four. The Huskies got on the scoreboard with just under three minutes to play, which avoided the program's first shutout loss at home since 1976. It took some time for the Irish offense to get back to game speed. But once they did, there wasn't much the Huskies could do about it. Coach Charlie Weis pulled out all the stops, even drawing a chorus of boos from the UW crowd when he ran a successful fake punt on a fourth-and-13 with a 24-0 lead late in the third quarter. But, as Notre Dame fans can attest, there haven't been many sure things with this team lately. Jimmy Clausen overcame a sluggish start to finish 14-of-26 for 201 yards, one touchdown and one interception. WESTERN KENTUCKY - The Hilltoppers, losers of four straight, had a much needed bye this past week. They'll look to get back on track when they take on North Texas this Saturday.
