(Best E Casino) - A pair of Northwest Division rivals will try to get back on the winning track tonight, as the
Vancouver Canucks welcome the
Edmonton Oilers to General Motors Place.
The Oilers began the season with a 4-0 record, but have since lost back-to- back games in regulation. Vancouver is on a three-game losing streak and has dropped four of its last five outings (1-4-0).
Chicago dealt the Oilers their first loss of the year, posting a 3-0 decision in the Windy City on Wednesday. The following night, Edmonton was handed another road loss, as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Oilers by a 4-1 count.
Ian Laperriere had a goal and an assist to lead the Avs to victory.
Shawn Horcoff lit the lamp and Mathieu Garon allowed four goals on 25 shots for Edmonton.
The Oilers, who are 2-2-0 as the visiting team this year, will complete their three-game road trip tonight.
Meanwhile, Vancouver will play just its second home test of the year and first since following a season-opening 6-0 rout of Calgary at GM Place with a six- game road trip.
The Canucks picked up wins in two of the first three tests on the residency, before going on the three-game slide.
Vancouver completed the trek with Tuesday's 4-2 setback in Columbus. Derek Dorsett scored the eventual winning goal in the second period, and Pascal Leclaire made 23 saves as the Blue Jackets beat the Canucks.
Kyle Wellwood and Kevin Bieksa had the goals for Vancouver, while Roberto Luongo made 29 saves.
Beginning with tonight's test, the Canucks are playing eight of their next 10 games on home ice. Vancouver will complete a two-game homestand Tuesday against Boston, then hit the road for two straight before coming back to British Columbia for a six-game residency.
These two Northwest residents split their eight-game series a season ago, though the Canucks have won nine of the last 13 against the Oilers, who have lost four of their last six in Vancouver.
