(Best E Casino) - The Buffalo Sabres will try to remain one of just three teams in the NHL yet to be handed a regulation loss when they visit the surging Colorado Avalanche tonight at the Pepsi Center.

Buffalo is 6-0-1 on the season and has won back-to-back contests since sustaining their lone setback of the year, a 3-2 shootout loss last Saturday in Atlanta. Montreal and Minnesota have also yet to receive a regulation defeats, as they are 5-0-1 and 4-0-1, respectively. The Wild's only loss came Thursday evening at the hands of the Sabres.

The Sabres have picked up their last two victories by close margins, beating Boston in a shootout on Tuesday before upending the host Wild two days later in overtime.

Derek Roy's tally 44 seconds into overtime sent Buffalo past Minnesota, 4-3, at Xcel Energy Center.

Sabres forward Henrik Tallinder carried the puck behind the Minnesota net and dished a blind pass in front. From a scramble in the crease, Roy managed to poke a loose puck through traffic and slip the disc under Minnesota's fallen netminder Niklas Backstrom for the game-winner.

Roy, Drew Stafford and Thomas Vanek each contributed a goal and one assist for the Sabres, who overcame a two-goal third-period deficit. Ryan Miller stopped 30 shots to earn the win.

Vanek leads the NHL with eight goals this season and is tied for second in the league with 11 points. The Austrian winger has registered two or more points in a game four times already in 2008-09.

The Sabres, who are 3-0-1 as the visiting club this year, are completing a brief two-game road trop tonight.

Meanwhile, Colorado has won four straight contests after beginning the regular season with three consecutive regulation losses.

The Avalanche earned their most recent triumph Thursday against visiting Edmonton as Ian Laperriere had a goal and an assist to lift Colorado to the 4-1 decision.

Paul Stastny, Joe Sakic and Cody McLeod also scored for the Avalanche. Ben Guite and Darcy Tucker each collected two assists, while Peter Budaj made 25 saves.

The Avs will play the second of two straight at home tonight. The club is 2-1-0 in Denver this season.

The Avalanche recorded a one-goal victory when the teams last met on March 7, 2007, snapping a three-game series losing streak. Colorado has dropped two straight to Buffalo as the host.
