San Francisco, CA (Best E Casino) - Trevor Graham, a former track and field coach of Olympic athletes, was sentenced Tuesday to 12 months of house arrest and five years of probation for his role in the Bay Area Laboratory Co- operative (BALCO) steroid distribution case.

Graham, who once coached Olympic athletes Tim Montgomery, Justin Gatlin and Marion Jones, was ordered to his sentence by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Illston. Those three athletes were later banned for performance-enhancing substances.

The government was attempting to give Graham a 10-month prison term, but instead Illston gave Graham a sentence that wasn't as harsh as Jones'.

It was in January when Jones was sentenced to six months in prison for lying to federal prosecutors. She was released from jail on September 5 after serving her prison term.

Graham had been charged with three counts of making false statements to special agents of IRS-Criminal Investigation. Graham was a witness in determining the ultimate source for illegal performance-enhancing drugs taken by many athletes who were connected with BALCO. He operated Sprint Capitol USA, which was formed in 1993, and was based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The biggest name in the BALCO scandal is Major League Baseball home run king Barry Bonds. His trial for obstruction of justice is to begin on March 2, 2009.
