Ducks, Leafs meet in battle of struggling teams

(Best E Casino) - The Anaheim Ducks hope a change of scenery can get them on the right track, as they begin a four-game road trip tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre.

The Ducks are just 1-5-0 on the season and recently lost two games during a three-game homestand. Anaheim's rough start to the season is one of the more surprising developments in the early stages of the 2008-09 campaign because the club came into the year as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup.

The Maple Leafs also come into tonight's contest on a downswing as they've dropped four straight (0-2-2) since winning their season opener in Detroit.

Anaheim was handed its most recent setback Sunday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. Eric Staal registered a goal and an assist to lift the visitors to the 3-1 decision at the Honda Center.

Francois Beauchemin lit the lamp for Anaheim, while Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed two goals on 23 shots in defeat.

Anaheim has lost both of its games as the visiting team this season, dropping the two road contests by a combined scored of 10-4. The Ducks also struggled in 2007-08 as the visitors, going 19-18-4 away from the Honda Center.

Toronto last played Saturday evening in Pittsburgh and was handed a 4-1 setback as Sidney Crosby victimized the Maple Leafs for a goal and three assists.

Nik Antropov scored the lone goal for the Leafs, while Toronto goaltender Curtis Joseph was denied career win number 450, after allowing all four goals on 25 shots.

It was another anemic offensive performance by Toronto, which has managed just nine goals in five games this season.

Toronto is 0-1-1 as the hosts this year and, beginning with tonight's test, is playing three of its next four games on home ice.

The Ducks have won two of their last three games against the Maple Leafs, but Toronto has taken four of six meetings. All told, the home team has won six straight and seven of the last eight encounters in this series.
