Jones says Romo could play Sunday

Irving, TX (Best E Casino) - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he believes quarterback Tony Romo will be able to play Sunday against the St. Louis Rams despite a broken right pinkie finger.

Romo, officially listed as questionable on the injury report, has worked out on a limited basis this week after suffering the injury last Sunday at Arizona, but Brad Johnson has taken the majority of the snaps with the first- team offense.

"It'll be up to how he feels Sunday," Jones said about Romo during his weekly radio show. "If he's feeling good and the pain is good, then it's likely he'll play. It's down to can he handle the pain?"

It was initially thought that Romo would be sidelined for a month with the injury, but he has been throwing with a splint on his right hand. Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips cautioned that Romo has only worked out on a limited basis.

"He was limited again," Phillips said Friday. "He didn't throw a whole lot of passes. He was fairly accurate and had good velocity."

Romo was hurt on the first play of overtime in Sunday's 30-24 setback against the Cardinals, as he was stripped of the football by Chike Okeafor during a scramble. Romo stayed on the field for what turned out to be the final two offensive plays of the game -- both incomplete passes -- as the Cowboys lost on a blocked punt returned for a touchdown.

If Johnson gets the nod Sunday, it will be his first start since December 17, 2006 with Minnesota.

"We can win with Brad," Phillips remarked. "If Tony comes in, it'll be a bonus."

The Cowboys have lost two of their last three games and own a record of 4-2, tied for second in the NFC East with the Washington Redskins.

Romo completed 24-of-39 passes for 321 yards with three touchdowns last Sunday. He was sacked three times and left the stadium after the contest with his right hand heavily iced and wrapped.

In six games this season, Romo has completed 64.0 percent of his passes for 1,689 yards with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has a quarterback rating of 103.5 -- second-best in the NFC.
