Detroit, MI (Best E Casino) - Alex Burrows' goal less than a minute into overtime lifted the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

In the opening stages of the extra session, a shot in the Detroit end bounced off the end boards and back out to the left circle. Burrows skated to the disc and slapped it past Chris Osgood to end the game just 27 seconds into overtime.

"When I got the rebound, I tried to get a quick shot off and I think I surprised (Osgood)," Burrows said. "It looked like it went under his arm."

Burrows also had an assist, while Ryan Kesler, Mason Raymond and Jannik Hansen all scored a goal apiece for the Canucks, who have won three of four to start the season.

Roberto Luongo stopped 32-of-35 shots for Vancouver, including all nine he saw in the third period.

Osgood gave up all four goals on 29 shots for Detroit, which was playing without star forward Henrik Zetterberg. The winger, who registered 43 goals and 92 points for Detroit last season, sat out with a strained groin and didn't participate in Thursday's morning skate.

Daniel Cleary, Brian Rafalski and Tomas Holmstrom tallied once each for the Red Wings, who had won two in a row. Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk each had two helpers.

"We don't look to me to be in sync," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "Two-on- ones, turnovers, odd-man rushes, it's just not normal. You can't win like this. We've got to get it fixed, obviously. Maybe we're trying to be too cute at home, I don't know."

Hansen's goal 5:08 into the game gave Vancouver the early edge, but Holmstrom evened the contest less than two minutes later.

On the Red Wings power play, Holmstrom deflected a blast from above the left circle past Luongo at 6:55. Kesler, though, lit the lamp almost four minutes later on a tip-in to give the Canucks a 2-1 lead after one period of play.

But Detroit controlled the second period, scoring twice while peppering Luongo with 15 shots. On another power play, a rebound went to Rafalski in the right circle, and his shot from there tucked into the goal to the far side of Luongo at the 3:42 mark.

Cleary went into the penalty box for tripping nine minutes into the frame, but turned the stay into another Detroit goal. Almost as soon as the Vancouver power play ended, Cleary skated out of the box and accepted a pass from Datsyuk in stride as he crossed into the Canucks zone on a clear breakaway.

Cleary's initial shot was stopped, but he banged home the rebound to give the Wings a 3-2 lead at 11:07, and they took it into the final frame.

But shortly into the third Vancouver tied the game. On a two-on-one rush, Raymond followed the initial shot, got the rebound and stuffed it into an open net. Osgood was inadvertently bowled over by a Canucks player on the first shot, leaving Raymond plenty of room to notch the equalizer at 2:23.
