St. Louis, MO (Best E Casino) - Brad Boyes recorded a goal and an assist and Manny Legace made 29 saves to lead the
St. Louis Blues to a 6-1 thrashing of the
Dallas Stars at Scottrade Center.
Eric Brewer, Keith Tkachuk, Yan Stastny, Steve Wagner and Jay McKee each tallied for St. Louis, which has won three of four to start the season and scored at least five goals in each of the three wins. The scoring output is a change from last season's Blues team that tallied just 2.5 goals per game.
Legace was especially effective in the final two periods, stopping 22-of-22 shots for St. Louis.
Marty Turco allowed five goals on just 18 shots for Dallas, which has lost three of four to start the season. Turco was eventually pulled for Tobias Stephan, who let in one score on five shots faced.
Krystofer Barch scored the lone goal for the Stars.
Tkachuk started the St. Louis scoring spree at 12:47 of the opening period. He skated unimpeded toward the Stars goal with the puck and slipped it between Turco's pads for a 1-0 lead.
About 2 1/2 minutes later, McKee blasted a shot from the left point that slipped past a crowd of players into the net, boosting the Blues lead to 2-0.
Barch found the back of the net with 3:24 left to bring Dallas within a goal after the opening period. But St. Louis notched four unanswered goals over the final two frames to run away with the win.
The Blues resumed their two-goal lead at 2:57 of the second when Stastny got control of the puck to the right of the net and snapped a shot past Turco. St. Louis was gifted a 5-on-3 advantage later in the stanza when Brenden Morrow went off for holding and James Neal joined him in the penalty box for slashing.
The power-play goal came after Paul Kariya made a short pass from the right side of the ice to the middle, where Boyes' shot slipped through everyone at 12:59. With 2:40 remaining in the second, Wagner unleashed a slapshot from the left point, almost on the blue line, that again beat Turco for a 5-1 Blues lead.
Turco was removed for the third period, and Stephan's only blemish was allowing Brewer's power-play tally shortly after a face-off with 7:11 left in the contest.
