Fayetteville, AR (Best E Casino) - Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones had his case for felony possession of cocaine transferred from circuit court to drug court and could eventually have the charges dropped.

Jones was arrested, along with two other men, in his former college town in July after police said they observed the former Arkansas Razorback cutting up cocaine with a credit card in a car.

Circuit Judge William Storey approved the transfer Tuesday after the prosecutor's office met with Jones' attorney, Woody Bassett.

Jones must still be accepted into the program by Circuit Judge Mary Ann Gunn. A court date has been scheduled for Monday, October 13.

If he successfully completes the program, the felony charges will be dismissed.

According to the police report, officers approached a white Toyota 4Runner at 12:41 a.m. on [July 10] and observed Jones chopping up white powder with a credit card. After ordering the men out of the car the officers found a bag containing six grams of white powder that tested positive as cocaine, a small plastic straw with suspected cocaine residue, a rolled up ten-dollar bill, and a glass jar with suspected marijuana residue, according to the report.

Jones was originally charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

In his fourth season with Jacksonville, Jones leads the team with 23 catches for 269 yards with a touchdown. The former college quarterback was selected in the first round of the 2005 draft by the Jaguars.
