(Best E Casino) - The Seattle Mariners try for a rare winning streak this afternoon when they play the middle test of their three-game season-ending series against the Oakland Athletics at Safeco Field.

In the opener of this set on Friday, Jose Lopez launched two homers to help give Seattle a 10-8 victory. Lopez finished with four RBI while Luis Valbuena went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Mariners, who, despite the win, have lost 14 of 16.

The victory also guaranteed that the Seattle won't equal the franchise's worst record, set in 1978 when the Mariners went 56-104. However, it is still in the midst of its first 100-loss campaign since 1983.

Ichiro Suzuki scored his 100th run of the season, giving him eight straight seasons with 100 runs and 200 hits, matching Lou Gehrig's all-time record for most number of seasons with those numbers. Gehrig reached those benchmarks in 1927-28, 1930-32, 1934 and 1936-37.

Brandon Morrow (3-4) earned the win despite a lousy start, allowing six runs on six hits and five walks for Seattle in five innings, with eight strikeouts. Roy Corcoran notched his third save of the year after pitching the ninth.

Travis Buck homered and drove in four runs while Jack Cust also went deep for Oakland, which has lost three straight.

Sean Gallagher (2-3) was tagged for eight runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings for the A's.

Oakland will hand the ball to lefty Greg Smith, who is 7-15 with a 4.07 ERA. Smith did not get a decision against the Texas Rangers on Monday, surrendering two runs and six hits in five innings of his team's 4-3 win.

Smith tossed six scoreless innings to defeat the Mariners the last time he faced them and is 1-0 against them without allowing a run in 12 innings.

Seattle will counter with lefty Ryan Rowland-Smith, who is 4-3 with a 3.39 ERA. Rowland-Smith was charged with the loss on Monday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, despite a decent effort. He gave up just two runs (one earned) and eight hits in seven innings of that one, a 2-1 loss.

Rowland-Smith is 0-1 lifetime against the A's with a 3.38 ERA in six games (one start).

Oakland is 10-7 against the Mariners so far this season and has split the eight battles between the squads in Seattle in 2008.
