(Best E Casino) - It appears as if the Brewers are going to ride CC Sabathia's arm to the postseason or bust. Sabathia will make his second straight start on short rest tonight, as Milwaukee resumes a three-game series with the
Pittsburgh Pirates at Miller Park.
The Brewers acquired Sabathia from the Indians in July to help them reach the postseason for the first time in 1982. The pending free agent has been worth the package of products Milwaukee shipped to Cleveland for his services, as Sabathia won his first nine decisions with Milwaukee, tossing six complete games in that time.
However, he failed to lift the club on three days' rest Saturday, allowing four runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings of a loss to the Reds on Saturday, though just one of those runs were earned.
It was the 28-year-old left-hander's second straight loss in a Brewers uniform, as he is now 9-2 with a 1.81 earned run average in 15 starts with the club.
Much like Milwaukee this year, Sabathia has had little with the Pirates. He is 3-0 against them lifetime with a 1.22 ERA in five starts. That includes a one- hit shutout versus them on August 31, an outing in which he struck out 11 and lost a no-hit bid in the fourth inning on a controversial infield single.
The Brewers defeated the Pirates, 7-5, on Tuesday thanks to Prince Fielder's game-winning, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth. It was Milwaukee's 10th straight win over Pittsburgh this season, and the club has won 12 of its 13 meetings with the Pirates this year.
The Brew Crew are also 15-1 versus the Buccos at home since the start of last season.
Mike Cameron added two RBI for the Brewers, who have won two straight following a three-game skid and sit one game behind the National League wild- card leading Mets. New York bested Chicago on Tuesday.
Nyjer Morgan finished with four hits and two RBI for the Pirates, who have lost four of their last five games overall. Rookie Steve Pearce added a two- run homer.
Paul Maholm draws the starting assignment and is 9-8 with a 3.68 ERA this season. After a win over the Cardinals on September 12, he earned a no- decision against the Dodgers on Thursday despite allowing just three runs on three hits over seven innings, though he also walked six.
The 26-year-old lefty is 2-4 with a 4.24 ERA in nine career starts versus Milwaukee.
