Eden Prairie, MN (Best E Casino) - The Minnesota Vikings are mourning the loss of Wally Hilgenberg, one of the franchise's all-time great players. A linebacker, Hilgenberg passed away Tuesday after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Hilgenberg played for the Vikings from 1968-1979 and appeared in all four of the team's Super Bowl appearances. Originally a fourth-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 1964, Hilgenberg was released by the Lions in 1968 and picked up on waivers by the Vikings. He remained with the club until his retirement after the 1979 season.
