Philadelphia, PA (Best E Casino) - ARMY - The Black Knights may have had two weeks to prepare for Akron, but it sure didn't look like it. Army simply couldn't get anything going in Saturday's 22-3 loss, dropping to 0-3 on the season. The passing game was virtually nonexistent, as Carson Williams went 6-of-12 for just 52 yards and an interception. Chip Bowden didn't have a whole lot of room in the running game, either. He finished with 65 yards on 21 carries (3.1 ypc). Army kept things close for a while, with Akron taking a 9-3 lead into the half. But the Zips continued to clamp down in the second half, and Army wasn't able to move the chains with any consistency. Army plays at Texas A&M this Saturday. The Aggies fell to 1-2 after losing at home to Miami this past weekend. NAVY - It was an exciting win for Navy this weekend, as Matt Harmon kicked the eventual game-winning 24-yarder through the uprights with two minutes to play. Eric Kettani had a big day on the ground, carrying 10 times for a career-high 133 yards and a touchdown. Shun White, who entered the game as the nation's leading rusher, added 85 yards on 16 carries. Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada threw for 89 yards and a TD, while running for another 47 yards. The Midshipmen trailed 14-6 at the half. But they came out on a mission in the third quarter, putting together two lengthy touchdown drives to seize control of the game. Navy plays at 16th-ranked Wake Forest on Saturday. The Demon Deacons are coming off a 12-3 win at Florida State. NOTRE DAME - Notre Dame's 23-7 loss at Michigan State was the team's first setback of 2008. The key factor in the loss was UND's inability to stop the run, as Spartan tailback Javon Ringer churned out 201 yards and two TDs. To the contrary, the Irish managed just 16 rushing yards (0.7 ypc) as a team. Jimmy Clausen had his moments in the passing game, throwing for 242 yards and a TD, but he also threw two costly interceptions. It took a while for Notre Dame to get anything going on offense, as Michigan State took a 13-0 lead into the fourth quarter. But Clausen hooked up with Michael Floyd for a 26-yard scoring strike early in the fourth. From there, however, MSU took control. The Irish will host Purdue this Saturday. The Boilermakers knocked off Central Michigan on a 46-yard touchdown run with one minute to play this past weekend. WESTERN KENTUCKY - The Hilltoppers climbed back to .500 with Saturday's 50-9 drubbing of Murray State. WKU's two wins this season have come in blowout fashion, and so has the team's two losses. A stadium-record 22,297 fans came out to see David Wolke post a season-high 245 passing yards. The WKU defense also put on quite a show, stifling the Murray State ground game to a mere 11 yards on 20 attempts (0.6 ypc). The Racers converted just 2-of-14 third downs. WKU came away with four interceptions, one of which was returned 25 yards for a second-quarter touchdown by Blake Boyd. WKU will look to keep the momentum going this Saturday at Kentucky.
