Bronx, NY (Best E Casino) - The New York Yankees closed out their residence at iconic Yankee Stadium with one final victory, a 7-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Since christening the stadium on Opening Day, April 18, 1923 with a 4-1 triumph over Boston, New York went on to win 4,133 games at Yankee Stadium. New York lost 2,430 games at the storied venue and posted 17 ties. New York finished its final homestand there with an 8-2 record and three-game sweep of the Orioles.

"I played here all my life," stated Yankee great Yogi Berra. "Like I said, I'm sorry to see it go."

Andy Pettitte (14-14) gave up three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits in five-plus innings to get the win, his 95th at the stadium. Johnny Damon hit a three-run homer, while Jose Molina hit the final home run at Yankee Stadium, a two-run shot.

Derek Jeter went 0-for-5 in the game, but will go down as the all-time hits leader at Yankee Stadium with 1,274. Mariano Rivera, the stadium's all-time saves leader with 230, entered for one final inning to preserve the win.

"I didn't know what to expect," said Jeter. "A few moments before the game it really set in."

The Yankees, who wrapped up nine of their 26 World Series titles on the south side of 161st Street and River Avenue, will move across the street to a $1.3 billion upgrade next April.

Chris Waters (3-4) took the loss after allowing five runs in 5 2/3 innings for Baltimore, which has lost five in a row.

With the focus on the Yankees, the Orioles jumped out in front. Adam Jones tripled with one away in the second and scored two batters later when Jay Payton grounded into a fielder's choice.

Melvin Mora's RBI single in the top of the third gave Baltimore a 2-0 edge. The hit scored Brian Roberts, who reached on an error by Pettitte and stole second.

But in the home third, Hideki Matsui and Molina led off with back-to-back singles. That brought up Damon, who crushed a down-and-in offering over the fence in right field for a 3-2 New York lead.

Roberts tied up the game in the fourth when his single scored Kevin Millar, who had doubled.

In the bottom half of the fourth, Robinson Cano worked a leadoff walk, and two batters later, Molina's fly ball to left just cleared the fence to make it a 5-3 game.

New York then tacked on two more runs in the seventh. Facing Lance Cormier, Bobby Abreu got on base with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on Jason Giambi's base hit.

Brett Gardner, who pinch-ran for Giambi, went to third when shortstop Brandon Fahey committed a fielding error. Gardner then scored on Cano's sacrifice fly to put the home team ahead, 7-3.

The Yankees bullpen did its part in holding the lead. Jose Veras and Phil Coke each tossed two-thirds of an inning, while Joba Chamberlain notched 1 2/3 frames of scoreless ball. Rivera then jogged out of the bullpen in the ninth and was perfect, getting three groundouts to finish the game.

The victory kept the Yankees 6 1/2 games behind Boston in the AL wild card race, and kept alive the club's slim playoff chances for another day. The Red Sox beat Toronto earlier Sunday to clinch at least a tie of the wild card. Boston has seven games remaining, New York has six, and the two clubs meet for a three-game set at Fenway Park to close out the season.

Game Notes

A pregame ceremony honored former Yankee greats Bernie Williams, Whitey Ford, Tino Martinez and Berra, among others...The Yankees finished with a 48-33 home record this season, the 17th consecutive winning record they posted at home. It is the longest such streak in the major leagues...Pettitte recorded three strikeouts, giving him 2,002 for his career. The left-hander finished with 816 strikeouts at Yankee Stadium, second-most all-time to Ron Guidry's 969...In addition to the Yankees' rich history, the stadium has also been the site of many pro and college football games -- including the NFL Championship of 1958 when the Baltimore Colts beat the New York Giants in the first sudden-death overtime game and Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne's "win one for the Gipper" speech in 1928 -- as well as numerous championship boxing matches and papal visits...The Orioles have not won a series since August 15-17 against Detroit.
