Atlanta, GA (Best E Casino) - Michael Turner ran for 104 yards and three touchdowns to give the Atlanta Falcons an impressive 38-14 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Matt Ryan completed 12-of-18 passes for 192 yards and a score, and Roddy White caught five passes for 119 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Jerious Norwood added 75 yards on 11 carries for the Falcons (2-1), while Chris Houston contributed a defensive touchdown late in the game on an interception return.

"I'm proud of the way our team started. We started very fast, especially on defense," Falcons head coach Mike Smith said. "I thought Ryan did a nice job throwing the explosive play to White. I'm excited about being 2-1. Next Sunday can't get here quick enough."

Tyler Thigpen struggled in his first NFL start for Kansas City, connecting on only 14-of-36 throws for 128 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. Larry Johnson carried the ball 24 times for 121 yards and a score for the Chiefs (0-3), who have now lost 12 straight games dating back to last season. Dwayne Bowe caught four passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

"I didn't play up to expectations," Thigpen said. "We started out slow offensively, but towards the end of the half we got a little thing going. In the second half, we came out pretty well. We started off slow and then came on as an offense. We need to reverse that."

Atlanta was able to convert on all three of Kansas City's turnovers, scoring 17 total points. Conversely, the Chiefs were only able to recover one fumble, but they could not turn it into a score.

The game began with the teams combining for six straight three-and-outs, but Atlanta finally got something going late in the first. Turner and Norwood combined to gain all 92 yards in a six-play drive, and Turner capped it with a four-yard score to put the Falcons up 7-0 with 3:20 left in the opening quarter.

Just three minutes later, on Atlanta's next possession after another Kansas City three-and-out, Ryan found White streaking behind the defense and hit him for a 70-yard touchdown to go up 14-0.

"(The Chiefs) had the coverage that we like to throw that route on," Smith said. "(Ryan) made the perfect throw and (White) came down with the ball and was hitting stride. It is good to see explosive plays."

Early in the second, Thigpen threw an interception that gave Atlanta the ball on the Chiefs' 18-yard line. After failing to get a first down, Jason Elam booted a 27-yard field goal with 9:15 to go in the half.

Another interception gave the Falcons good field position again, starting from Kansas City's 40. Atlanta scored 10 plays later on Turner's one-yard touchdown run with 2:11 to go in the half.

Thigpen put together a two-minute drill to finally put Kansas City on the board. He completed an 11-yard pass while also scrambling for another 18-yard gain to help the Chiefs get into Atlanta territory. On 3rd-and-10 from the Falcons' 30, Thigpen found Tony Gonzalez for 12 yards, and, with just three seconds to go in the half, he found Bowe for a 15-yard score to make it 24-7 at the break.

The Chiefs came out in the second half and scored on their opening drive. Johnson had 71 total rushing yards -- including a 48-yard scamper and a one- yard touchdown to pull the Chiefs within 10 just over five minutes into the second half.

The Falcons answered, however, as Ryan led an eight-play, 60-yard drive that ended when Turner found the end zone for the third time, this one from two yards out, making it 31-14 with 5:13 remaining in the third.

After a muffed punt with 8:42 left in the game, the Chiefs got the ball on Atlanta's 41. Thigpen converted a crucial 4th-and-2 with a 13-yard completion to Bowe down to the 20, but Johnson came up just short on 4th-and-goal, wrapping the game up for Atlanta.

Thigpen threw an interception that Atlanta's Houston took back 10 yards for the score with 1:01 left to account for the final margin.

Game Notes

Despite the loss, the Chiefs lead the all-time series 5-2...When Turner has eight or more carries in a game, his team is now 13-1...Atlanta's John Abraham came into the game leading the NFL in sacks with four and added two more to his total...Kansas City is the fourth team since the AFL-NFL merger to start three different quarterbacks in the first three games. The 1976 Rams, 1988 Browns and 1997 Jaguars all started three different quarterbacks, and each of those teams ended up with a winning record.
