Montreal, QC (Best E Casino) - Anthony Calvillo tallied 414 yards and two touchdowns on 31-of-38 passing to lead the Montreal Alouettes in a 40-4 thrashing of the Edmonton Eskimos in Week 13 action.
Ben Cahoon caught nine passes for 106 yards for the Alouettes (8-4), who bounced back from a 41-30 loss to Calgary in Week 12. Jamel Richardson caught eight balls for 150 yards and a score, while Kerry Watkins also hauled in eight passes, for 109 yards and a TD. Mike Imoh had seven touches for 47 yards and two scores. Damon Duval hit on 4-of-4 field goal attempts.
Ricky Ray was 14-of-17 passing for just 156 yards for the Eskimos (7-5), who have dropped two of their past three games. Kamau Peterson caught six passes for 70 yards in defeat and Ron McClendon ran seven times for 40 yards. Noel Prefontaine accounted for all the Edmonton offense with a field goal and a single.
A pair of Duval field goals, followed by a single from Prefontaine, gave Montreal a 6-1 lead after the first quarter.
Imoh then ran in a two-yard touchdown in the first minute of the second stanza to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive that gave the Alouettes a 13-1 advantage.
About seven minutes later, Imoh ran in a three-yard TD to close out a seven- play, 91-yard drive that ballooned Montreal's cushion to 20-1.
With 2:02 to go before the half, Duval hit on a 15-yard field goal which increased the difference to 23-1.
With 40 seconds left in the half, Calvillo hit Richardson on a 58-yard scoring strike to complete a three-play drive that lasted just 33 seconds and saw Montreal travel 73 yards to increase its lead to 30-1.
Prefontaine, though, drilled a 24-yard kick to help close the Edmonton deficit to 30-4 as the teams headed into the intermission.
On Montreal's second drive of the third stanza, Calvillo hit Cahoon for a 23-yard reception that landed the team at the Edmonton 18. The Alouettes were unable to gain another first down and were forced to settle for a 24-yard field goal from Duval to make it 33-4 with a little over eight minutes left in the quarter.
The Alouettes embarked on a drive from their own eight-yard line with 30 seconds left in the third that bridged the final two quarters.
Watkins hauled in a 12-yard catch and Dahrann Diedrick broke open a 39-yard run to bring the ball to the Eskimos' 51 as the third quarter ended. Richardson caught a pair of passes before Watkins caught two, the latter being a 10-yard TD pass to cap the six-play, 102-yard drive that lasted 2:35 and gave Montreal a 40-4 lead they would not relinquish.
