New York, NY (Best E Casino) - Southern California remained a strong No. 1 in the latest Associated Press college
football poll, and most of the top-10 stayed in place after a rather uneventful Saturday of action.
Three undefeated teams, however, joined the rankings, as Boise State, Vanderbilt and TCU made their season debuts in the poll.
USC (2-0) was idle this past Saturday after its 35-3 rout of Ohio State the previous week. The Trojans still gained an extra first-place vote, with 62, and earned a total of 1,621 points from a nationwide media panel.
Oklahoma (3-0) was also off this week and kept the second slot, while Georgia and Florida also retained their positions at three and four, respectively. The Bulldogs received two first-place votes after their 27-10 win at Arizona State, while the Gators notched one top tally following a 30-6 rout of Tennessee in Knoxville.
LSU (3-0) swapped places with Missouri (4-0), moving up to fifth after a thrilling 26-21 win at Auburn. Missouri dropped one spot after struggling somewhat in a 42-21 triumph over Buffalo.
Texas, Alabama, Wisconsin and Texas Tech round out the top 10 spots. Alabama leaped past idle Wisconsin into eighth after a 49-14 rout at Arkansas, while Texas Tech moved up one spot into the top-10 to replace Auburn, which dropped five places from 10th to 15 after its loss to LSU.
The second 10 consists of BYU, Penn State, South Florida, Ohio State, Auburn, Wake Forest, Utah, Kansas, Boise State and Clemson. Penn State moved up four spots from 16th after a 45-3 thumping of Temple, while Ohio State dropped a spot from 13th after a 28-10 win against Troy.
Vanderbilt, Illinois, East Carolina, TCU and Fresno State are the last five ranked teams. East Carolina remained in the poll, falling eight spots from 15th, after a 30-24 overtime loss at North Carolina State.
Boise State vaulted into the rankings following a 37-32 win at Oregon, which tumbled out of the poll after being ranked 17th last week. Vandy, meanwhile, is ranked for the first time since 1984 and improved to 4-0 with a 23-17 win at Ole Miss on Saturday. TCU rolled to a 48-7 win at SMU on Saturday to reach 4-0.
In addition to Oregon, Florida State and West Virginia fell out of this week's rankings. Florida State, which was 24th, dropped a 12-3 decision at home against Wake Forest. West Virginia, which started the season ranked eighth, was No. 21 last week and suffered its second straight loss -- a 17-14 overtime decision at Colorado.
Three games on this week's schedule will feature ranked teams against each other. The big one comes from the SEC, as eighth-ranked Alabama meets No. 3 Georgia between the hedges in Athens.
Also, TCU has a tough first test as a ranked team with a visit to Oklahoma, while a Big Ten matchup pits Illinois at Penn State.
