Austin, TX (Best E Casino) - Colt McCoy carved the Rice defense for 329 yards and four touchdowns on 19-of-23 passing, leading No. 7 Texas to a 52-10 rout of the Owls.

McCoy also rushed eight times for 83 yards and a score for the Longhorns (3-0). Jordan Shipley had five catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns for Texas, which was coming off an unexpected bye week after Hurricane Ike forced the postponement of its game against Arkansas, which has been rescheduled for September 27.

Quan Cosby added seven catches for 90 yards, and John Chiles rushed for 72 yards on 10 carries and a score for the Longhorns.

Chase Clement completed 25-of-37 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown for Rice (2-2) which had to relocate to Nashville last week due to the impact of Hurricane Ike on the Houston area. Jarett Dillard had nine catches for 158 yards and a score for the Owls.

Rice opened the game with a nice drive into Texas territory, but it stalled at the 29-yard-line. A 4th-and-2 Clement pass to Toren Dixon fell incomplete, and the Longhorns took over.

McCoy and Cosby hooked up for a 35-yard pass on the ensuing drive, but Cosby fumbled at the Rice five-yard-line, and the Owls took over. The Rice offense continued to move the ball well, moving to the Texas 13, but had to settle for a 31-yard Clark Fangmeier field goal, and a 3-0 lead with 7:47 left in the first quarter.

Texas needed only three plays to take the lead. After a 14-yard pass to Cosby, McCoy hit Shipley for a 30-yard gain to the Rice 16, with a facemask penalty setting the Texas offense up at the eight-yard-line. McCoy took it in himself on the next play, and the eight-yard scoring run gave the Longhorns a 7-3 lead just 63 seconds after the Rice field goal.

A Clement quick-kick pinned Texas at its one-yard-line, but the Longhorn offense answered with a 12-play, 99-yard scoring march that bridged the first two quarters. McCoy capped it with a 30-yard scoring toss to Shipley, and Texas led 14-3 with 10:51 to play in the half.

The first play of the next Longhorns possession was a 60-yard scoring strike from McCoy to Shipley, pinning Rice in a 21-3 hole with 7:22 remaining in the first half.

Rice marched deep into Texas territory on the ensuing possession, but again ran into trouble near the end zone. After a 48-yard connection from Clement to Dillard down to the Texas 2, the Rice offense had 10 chances to punch the ball in the end zone, thanks to two Texas pass interference penalties. Twice the Rice offense went for it on fourth-and-goal, the first time ended with a pass interference, while the second, a fourth-and-goal from the three, was an incomplete pass, ending the momentous goal-line stand by the Texas defense.

After the demoralizing goal line failure by the Rice offense, the Owls defense was overrun by Texas. McCoy tossed two touchdowns in the third quarter, a six- yarder to Cosby and a 47-yarder to Chris Ogbonnaya, the second with three seconds left in the quarter. They sandwiched a 15-yard TD pass from Clement to Dillard, and Texas took a 38-10 lead into the fourth quarter.

Touchdown runs by Chiles and Cody Johnson in the fourth pushed Texas to a 42- point win.

Game Notes

The Longhorns held Rice to 17 yards rushing...Texas ran its non-conference winning streak to 12 games, the longest since head coach Mack Brown took over in 1998...The Longhorns improved to 14-4 after a bye week under Brown...Texas has won the last 10 meetings between the former Southwest Conference rivals, and 38 of 39.
