Phoenix, AZ (Best E Casino) - Dan Haren threw his first career shutout, dominating the Giants to send the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 2-0 victory over San Francisco, in the second contest of a four-game series from Chase Field.

Haren (15-8) was masterful in scattering four hits and walking two while fanning a season-high 12 batters to snap a four-start winless streak.

"You could tell early on the he (Haren) had that focus back in his eye and he was throwing the fastball for strikes," Arizona manager Bob Melvin said. He wasn't afraid to throw it over the plate and had a good breaking ball. It was about as good as we've seen."

Chris Snyder and Stephen Drew provided all the offense Haren needed with a solo home run each for Arizona, which has taken the first two games from San Francisco. The D'Backs remained at a 4 1/2-game deficit in the division and kept from falling further back of the Dodgers, who were 6-2 victors in Pittsburgh earlier Tuesday.

Matt Cain (8-13) allowed both home runs among seven total hits while striking out seven and walking none in a tough loss. Pablo Sandoval had two of the Giants four hits.

"We didn't mount very much offensively," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "We had two good pitching efforts here. These are tough losses getting the kind of pitching we have been getting."

Snyder led off the third with his 16th home run of the season, a shot over the left field wall, while Haren retired the first 11 batters of the game before a two-out single from Sandoval in the fourth.

A two-out walk to Eugenio Velez in the fifth and a subsequent stolen base was as far as any runner would get for San Francisco, and Drew led off the sixth with his 18th longball of the season for a 2-0 mark.

"He has a great arsenal and when he mixes it up, that's when he is the most effective. He had everything going tonight," Snyder said of Haren. "The way he was going, that (Snyder's home run) was all he needed then Stephen (Drew) added on and he carried us."

Consecutive one-out singles from Randy Winn and Sandoval in the ninth threatened the shutout but Bengie Molina hit a fly-ball to center and Travis Ishikawa went down swinging to end the game.
