(Best E Casino) - Dan Haren will try to end his current winless streak when he leads the
Arizona Diamondbacks against the
San Francisco Giants tonight in the second test of a four-game series at Chase Field.
Haren is 0-2 with a 5.57 earned run average in his past four starts and posted a no-decision at San Francisco his last time out Wednesday at AT&T Park. In the 4-3 loss to the Giants, Haren was reached for two runs -- one earned -- on six hits in four innings of work.
The right-hander, who is 10-4 at home, owns a 14-8 record over 30 starts this season. Haren is also 5-4 with a 3.36 earned run average in 12 career games (11 starts) against the Giants, and 1-1 with a 4.00 ERA in three outings against San Francisco in 2008,
He will get a chance to add another win to his record on Tuesday for the D'Backs, who ended a two-game slide and won for just the second time in 10 games with Monday's 3-1 triumph in the series opener.
Adam Dunn provided the late fireworks with a two-run homer in the eighth inning and Justin Upton added two hits, including a home run, for Arizona, which is still 4 1/2 games behind Los Angeles for first place in the NL West standings. The Dodgers defeated Pittsburgh last night at PNC Park.
Arizona starter Doug Davis tossed seven innings and gave up just one unearned run on eight hits without walking a batter in a no-decision. Tony Pena recorded the win with a perfect eighth before Chad Qualls came on in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.
The Giants had a three-game winning streak come to an end with last night's setback, in which starting pitcher Brad Hennessey went the distance but allowed two home runs to absorb the loss. The right-hander struck out two and did not walk a batter in the eight-inning performance.
San Francisco got its run in the third inning, when Bengie Molina reached base safely on Chris Young's fielding error to allow Rich Aurilia to score.
Matt Cain will try to pitch the Giants back on track when toes the rubber on Tuesday night. Cain is 0-3 with a 6.28 earned run average in his last five starts and dropped his most recent outing Thursday at San Diego. He was reached for six runs and nine hits over 3 1/3 innings in an 11-3 loss, falling to 8-12 with a 3.96 ERA this season.
The bulky right-hander is 3-2 in nine lifetime matchups with Arizona.
Arizona leads the season series with San Francisco by an 8-7 margin. The Giants recently swept a three-game series with the D'Backs at AT&T Park from September 8-10.
