(Best E Casino) - The
Colorado Rockies will shoot for consecutive wins for the first time since the beginning of the month when they open a three-game series tonight versus the
San Diego Padres at Coors Field.
The Rockies ended a seven-game slide with a 1-0 victory in 10 innings over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. Troy Tulowitzki singled home Matt Holliday in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead the Rockies, who are 9 1/2 games off the lead in the NL West standings.
Garrett Atkins had a pair of hits and starter Aaron Cook hurled eight shutout innings for the no-decision. Brian Fuentes tossed a scoreless inning of relief and Manny Corpas got the win with a perfect 10th inning.
Ubaldo Jimenez will pitch on short rest for the Rockies on Monday and he is 10-12 with a 4.18 earned run average this season. Jimenez is 2-1 over his past five starts and did not factor in the outcome of an 8-4 loss at Atlanta on September 11.
Jimenez allowed three runs -- two earned -- and five hits in five innings against the Braves. The right-hander, who is 6-4 at home in 2008, is 2-3 with a 3.93 ERA in six career starts against the Padres.
San Diego will try to put the brakes on a three-game slide on Monday and is just 1-5 over the past six games. In Sunday's 8-6 loss in 10 innings to San Francisco on Sunday in the finale of a four-game set, Edgar Gonzalez finished 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Padres, who have dropped five of six.
Dirk Hayhurst took the loss, permitting two hits and two runs without recording an out. Starter Cha Seung Baek lasted just two innings, giving up a run on two hits, before leaving the game with a strained right triceps.
Wade LeBlanc gets the nod for the Padres this evening and he will make his third-career start. LeBlanc has faced Los Angeles twice so far in the big leagues and is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in both encounters with the Dodgers.
LeBlanc last toed the rubber on September 9 versus the Dodgers and tossed six solid innings of one-run ball for the no-decision in a 6-2 loss. The lefty lasted four innings in his first start on September 3.
San Diego is 8-7 against Colorado this season, while both teams have split six meetings at Coors Field.
