Edmonton, AB (Best E Casino) - Jason Goss had three interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns as the Edmonton Eskimos downed the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 38-33.
Goss finished the game with a franchise-high 144 yards on interception returns, which was also the second highest in CFL history, and tied team marks for interceptions and interception touchdown returns.
Ricky Ray went 23-for-35 with 355 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions and added a rushing touchdown, while Kelly Campbell added five catches for 154 yards and a score for the Eskimos (7-4), who have won three of their last four.
Casey Printers went 14-for-30 with 213 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions and added 125 yards on the ground on 11 carries, while Prechae Rodriguez hauled in five catches for 81 yards and two scores for the Tiger- Cats, who have lost their last four games.
The game saw the debut of Marcel Bellefeuille as the head coach for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Bellefeuille, Hamilton's offensive coordinator, was promoted to head coach Monday when the club fired Charlie Taaffe after a season and a half. Bellefeuille is in just his first season with the Ticats but is in his eighth CFL campaign.
Trailing by two points with under two minutes to play, Edmonton surged ahead on a six-play, 75-yard drive that Calvin McCarty capped with a 21-yard score for a 38-33 lead with under a minute to play.
Printers then fumbled the ball on the first play of the ensuing drive and Edmonton killed off the clock to hang on for the win.
Edmonton got on the board in the first quarter when Goss picked off a Printers pass and took it into the end zone on a 50-yard score for a 7-0 lead.
Hamilton then answered with a 38-yard field goal from Nick Setta and Rodriguez gave the team a 10-7 lead on an 18-yard touchdown catch from Printers.
The Tiger-Cats then made it a 17-7 game as Printers again found Rodriguez, this time for a 10-yard score less than a minute into the second quarter.
However, the Eskimos scored twice in the second quarter to take the lead into the locker room.
On the ensuing drive after the Hamilton touchdown, the Eskimos took the ball 64 yards in six plays and Ray punched the ball in from a yard out to make it a three-point game with under 11 minutes left in the first half.
Printers was then intercepted on the first play of the next drive and Edmonton wasted no time taking the lead as Ray threw a pass to Campbell for a 41-yard score.
Hamilton got a nine-yard field goal from Setta on its first possession of the second half to make it a 21-20 game.
However, Goss picked off Printers again and this time took the ball 94 yards into the end zone for a 28-20 advantage.
The Tiger-Cats got an interception touchdown return of their own when Geoff Tisdale picked off a Ray pass and took it in from 62 yards out to make it a 28-27 game on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Edmonton got a 21-yard field goal from Noel Prefontaine with 10 minutes left, but the Tiger-Cats then took the lead on a pair of Setta field goals, the first one from 45 yards out and the second one from 23 yards out with 2:08 to play to make it a 33-31 game.
