Cincinnati, OH (Best E Casino) - Joey Votto finished with four hits, including a double and four runs batted in and Bronson Arroyo pitched seven solid innings as the Cincinnati Reds hammered the San Francisco Giants, 9-3, to complete a three-game sweep at Great American Ball Park. Jeff Keppinger went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored for the Reds, who have won four of their last six games. Arroyo (13-10) got the win after giving up two runs on 10 hits, while fanning five and not allowing a walk. The veteran righty improved to 3-3 lifetime against the Giants, including a complete game. He also chipped in with a two- run double and his first career stolen base. Emmanuel Burriss hit his first career home run for the Giants, who have dropped five of their last six. Aaron Rowand had two hits and an RBI in defeat. Matt Cain (8-11) suffered the loss after working five innings. The young right-hander was touched for five runs on eight hits, while striking out three and walking five.

Final Score: New York 6, Florida 2

Miami, FL (Best E Casino) - Pedro Martinez rebounded from a tough first inning to throw six strong frames, and the New York Mets downed the Florida Marlins 6-2 in the rubber match of a three-game set. Martinez (5-3) gave up two runs -- both in the first -- on seven hits, with four strikeouts and a walk. Carlos Beltran, Nick Evans, and David Wright each hit solo homers for the Mets, who have won three of four to stay atop the NL East. New York kept its lead in the division at one game as Philadelphia bested Chicago 5-3 on Sunday. Scott Olsen (6-9) was rocked for six runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, with four strikeouts and one walk. Olsen has not won since July 19, going 0-5 over his last eight starts -- all of them losses for the Marlins. Luis Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and scored for Florida, which has dropped four of six to fall back in the NL East. The Marlins trail the Mets by seven games.

Final Score: Milwaukee 7, Pittsburgh 0

Pittsburgh, PA (Best E Casino) - CC Sabathia pitched a controversial one-hit shutout, striking out 11 as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-0, to sweep the three-game series at PNC Park. Sabathia held the Pirates hitless for the first four innings, but Andy LaRoche led off the fifth with an infield single. The Pittsburgh third baseman hit a slow roller down the third-base line and Sabathia bobbled it, allowing LaRoche to reach first for the home team's lone hit of the game. The Brewers will send a DVD and a written explanation to Major League Baseball protesting the scorer's ruling in an attempt to get the call changed. If the play winds up being called an error, Sabathia will have recorded the second no-hitter in franchise history. Sabathia (9-0) also walked three batters and has won a career-high 12 straight decisions over his last 16 starts which began on June 10, while he was still with the Indians. Sabathia was a disappointing 6-8 in 18 starts with the Cleveland Indians before a midseason trade brought him to Milwaukee for a myriad of prospects. He now has 10 career shutouts to go along with 25 complete games. Rickie Weeks hit a solo homer and Bill Hall had a two-run double for the Brewers, who have won 10 of their last 13 games. Gabe Kapler chipped in with a pair of RBI in the win. Milwaukee is now 4 1/2 games behind Chicago for first place in the National League Central. The Cubs lost 5-3 to Philadelphia on Sunday. The Brewers remain 5 1/2 games ahead of the Phillies in the race for the NL wild card. Jeff Karstens (2-4) suffered the loss after going 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander gave up three runs on five hits while walking a batter without picking up a strikeout. The Pirates have lost 10 straight and 14 of their last 16 games.

Final Score: Washington 8, Atlanta 4

Washington, DC (Best E Casino) - Aaron Boone hit the go-ahead three-run homer and added an RBI single to lead the Washington Nationals to an 8-4 win and a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves. Willie Harris went 3-for-5, drove in a run and scored for the Nationals, who scored five runs in the eighth to extend their season-high win streak to six games. Collin Balester gave up four runs on six hits in seven innings, and Garrett Mock (1-3) picked up his first career win for a scoreless inning of relief. Jair Jurrjens gave up five hits and three runs in six innings, with seven strikeouts and three walks. Elmer Dessens (0-1) was ripped for four hits and five runs while recording just one out in the eighth inning for the Braves, who have dropped four of five. Yunel Escobar belted a three-run homer in the fourth to put Atlanta on top, but it wouldn't hold up against Washington.

Final Score: Houston 3, St. Louis 0

Houston, TX (Best E Casino) - Ty Wigginton hit a two-run homer to lead Houston past St. Louis, 3-0, in the final contest of a three-game series at Minute Maid Park. Hunter Pence drove in the other run for the Astros, who swept the set and have won five straight games. Wandy Rodriguez (8-6) got the win by allowing seven hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings before leaving the game with a back injury. He is listed as day-to- day. Albert Pujols and Aaron Miles each had two hits for the Cardinals, who have lost five of seven. Todd Wellemeyer (11-6) took the loss despite a solid start, giving up just one run and four hits over seven full frames.

Final Score: Philadelphia 5, Chicago 3

Chicago, IL (Best E Casino) - Jayson Werth homered and doubled to drive in three runs for the Phillies, who earned a split in the four-game series with a 5-3 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Ryan Howard had three hits with a run batted in and a run scored while starter Jamie Moyer (12-7) got the win, lasting 5 1/3 innings while giving up two runs on eight hits and a pair of walks with four strikeouts. The Phillies kept pace in the NL East with the win, remaining one game back of the first-place Mets, who bested the Marlins 6-2 on Sunday. Starter Sean Marshall (3-4) was tagged for five runs on nine hits and a pair of walks after earning a spot start when scheduled starter Carlos Zambrano was scratched due to a tired arm. The left-hander helped himself with an RBI single, while Ronny Cedeno and Henry Blanco also had run-scoring singles. The Cubs, who had a seven-game winning streak snapped Saturday, dropped their second consecutive game and lost another game to Milwaukee in the NL-Central race. CC Sabathia hurled a one- hitter as the Brewers downed Pittsburgh 7-0 Sunday to climb within 4 1/2 games of first place.

Final Score: San Diego 2, Colorado 1

San Diego, CA (Best E Casino) - Luis Rodriguez drove in both San Diego runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth as San Diego pulled out a 2-1 win over Colorado in the rubber match of a three-game series. Brian Giles and Will Venable each had two hits for the Padres, who have won five of their last six. Jake Peavy was nearly unhittable in eight scoreless innings on the mound, striking out a season-high 13 and scattering five hits and two walks. But the reigning NL Cy Young winner took a no-decision after Trevor Hoffman (3-6) blew his fourth save of the season but ended up in the win column regardless. Jeff Francis was nearly as effective as Peavy, allowing a run on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts in his seven-inning start. Troy Tulowitzki and Scott Podsednik each had two hits, while Chris Iannetta drove in the Rockies' only run as Colorado fell for the third time in four games. Taylor Buchholz (6-4) took the loss for the visitors.

Final Score: Los Angeles 8, Arizona 1

Phoenix, AZ (Best E Casino) - Derek Lowe threw six shutout innings as Los Angeles Dodgers took an 8-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks to wrap up a three-game set at Chase Field. Lowe (11-11) gave up just four hits and one walk while striking out two for the Dodgers, who have won two straight and now trail Arizona by 2 1/2 games for first place in the NL West. Casey Blake hit a three-run home run in the win. Brandon Webb (19-6) failed for the second straight time in attempting to become the first 20-game winner in the NL as he was shelled for eight runs -- six earned -- on eight hits in just 3 1/3 innings of work for Arizona, which has lost six of its last seven games. Mark Reynolds' solo home run provided the only offense for the team.
