Tonight Philadelphia has a chance to return the favor, as it will try to complete its first four-game sweep of the Dodgers in nearly 23 years when the two postseason contenders wrap up their series at Citizens Bank Park.
Philadelphia may very well find itself back in first place, as the team moved a half-game back of the slumping New York Mets in the NL East race with a thrilling 5-2 come-from-behind win over Los Angeles on Sunday.
Pedro Feliz tied the game with a two-out RBI single in the ninth inning, then later came through with a three-run homer in the 11th to win it for the Phils, who will start a pivotal two-game series at home against the Mets on Tuesday.
Feliz's heroics made a winner out of Chad Durbin (5-2), who pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Shane Victorino added two hits and scored twice for Philadelphia, which has won six of its last seven.
Philadelphia hasn't swept a four-game series from the Dodgers since turning the trick in Los Angeles from August 29 - September 1, 1985. The last time it happened in Philly was back in 1929, when the Dodgers still played in Brooklyn.
Jeff Kent went 3-for-5 with an RBI for LA, which has fallen in five of its last six games, keeping them three behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for the NL West lead.
Los Angeles has also dropped five in a row and nine of its last 11 on the road.
Hoping to get the Phillies back to the top of the division tonight will be right-hander Brett Myers, who has won three of his four decisions since returning from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Myers was terrific against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, as he tossed a nine-hit shutout to run his record to a 6-10 and lower his earned run average to 4.71. He also fanned nine and walked a batter in the win.
Over his last five starts, Myers has surrendered just six runs over 36 2/3 innings.
Myers lost to the Dodgers the last time he faced them and is 3-2 lifetime against Los Angeles with a save and a 2.86 ERA in 11 games, 10 of which have been starts.
Los Angeles will counter with 24-year-old righty Chad Billingsley, who is 12-9 with a 3.10 ERA. Billingsley did not get a decision on Wednesday in Colorado, as he surrendered two runs and five hits in six innings of his team's 4-3 loss.
Billingsley has only faced the Phils twice in his career and is 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA against them.
Philadelphia had lost six straight games to Los Angeles prior to the three wins in this series.
