Bronx, NY (Best E Casino) - Brett Gardner singled home Robinson Cano with two outs in the bottom of the 13th inning to give the New York Yankees a much- needed 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Cano singled with one out off Jeff Fulchino (0-1) and took second on a slow grounder to third by Ivan Rodriguez. Gardner fouled off the first two pitches he saw, then ran the count full before slapping a base hit through the left side of the infield to score Cano with the winning run. Gardner, who also had a 10th-inning walkoff hit against Boston on July 6, finished 3-for-5 in his second game since being recalled from the minors to take the place of demoted center fielder Melky Cabrera. David Robertson (3-0), the last of seven Yankee pitchers, earned the win with two innings of hitless ball. The New York bullpen combined for 6 2/3 innings of one-hit relief after starter Sidney Ponson yielded two runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. Kansas City starter Zack Greinke was charged with a pair of unearned runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five. Alex Gordon homered for the Royals, who have lost eight of their last 10.

Final Score: LA Angels of Anaheim 4, Cleveland 3

Cleveland, OH (Best E Casino) - Vladimir Guerrero knocked in two runs as the LA Angels of Anaheim took advantage of four Indians errors to top Cleveland, 4-3, in the middle test of a three-game series at Progressive Field. John Lackey (10-2) lasted six innings while serving up three runs on six hits and three walks to pick up the win for the Angels, who have won six of their last eight games. Garret Anderson had two of the club's six hits en route to extending his hitting streak to 20 games. Fausto Carmona (5-5) had his longest outing since coming off a two-month stint on the disabled list July 26, but was still saddled with the loss as a result of giving up four runs -- two earned -- on six hits and three walks in seven innings. Ryan Garko hit a two-run homer while David Dellucci went 2-for-5 with a solo blast for Cleveland, which stranded 13 runners on its way to dropping its third game in four tries.

Final Score: Chicago 2, Oakland 1

Oakland, CA (Best E Casino) - Toby Hall finished 2-for-3 and drove in a run, as the Chicago White Sox edged the Oakland Athletics, 2-1, in the second of three games from McAfee Coliseum. Juan Uribe doubled in the other run for Chicago, which has won four of its last five games and remain tied with Minnesota for first place in the AL Central after the Twins clipped the Seattle Mariners, 7-6, on Saturday. John Danks (10-5) picked up the win after he gave up one run on six hits with five walks and five strikeouts over six innings. Danks has won seven of his last eight decisions. D.J. Carrasco, Matt Thornton and Bobby Jenks each tossed a scoreless inning in relief. Emil Brown had two hits and knocked in the lone run for the A's, who have lost 15 of their last 18 games. Greg Smith (5-12) absorbed the loss after he allowed two runs on eight hits in five innings of work. The lefty has dropped his last six decisions.

Final Score: Minnesota 7, Seattle 6

Minneapolis, MN (Best E Casino) - Brian Buscher's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning pushed Minnesota past Seattle, 7-6, in the middle test of a three-game set from the Metrodome. Facing Cesar Jimenez (0-2), Joe Mauer beat out an infield single to third. Justin Morneau followed with a single, and Miguel Batista got the nod. He induced a sac bunt from Delmon Young which moved both runners, then pinch-hitter Mike Lamb walked to load the bases. The Mariners tried to improve their defensive stance by bringing outfielder Ichiro Suzuki close to the infield to prevent a potential ground ball from getting through. However, the plan backfired as Buscher ended the game by lofting a fly ball to left which plated Mauer with the deciding run. Mauer finished 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored for the Twins, winners of three in a row and four of five. Dennys Reyes (3-0) got the win after hurling a scoreless ninth. Starter Scott Baker allowed eight hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Suzuki and Jeff Clement both knocked in a pair of runs for the Mariners, who have dropped five of six. Seattle starter Ryan Rowland-Smith lasted five innings, but was shelled for 10 hits and five runs with one strikeout and a pair of walks.

Final Score: Detroit 5, Baltimore 3

Detroit, MI (Best E Casino) - Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen both homered in the fourth, as the Tigers took a 5-3 victory from the Baltimore Orioles, knotting their three-game series at a game apiece. Justin Verlander (9-13) went six innings allowing just two unearned runs and four hits. The righty struck out six and walked three in his first win since July 20. He had lost his previous four starts. Cabrera finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Curtis Granderson and Placido Polanco added two hits apiece for the Tigers, who have won two of three. Fernando Rodney pitched around a two-out single in the ninth for his fourth save of the season. Dennis Sarfate (4-3) struggled to keep the Tigers off the bases, giving up four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings while walking three and striking out five in taking the loss. Melvin Mora went 2-for-3 while Luke Scott and Juan Castro each went 2-for-4 in the Orioles loss, their first after winning three straight.

Final Score: Toronto 4, Boston 1

Boston, MA (Best E Casino) - Blue Jays starter Roy Halladay held the powerful Red Sox at bay as Toronto topped Boston, 4-1, in the first of a truncated two- game series at Fenway Park. Halladay (14-9) allowed seven hits and one run for his eighth complete game of the season, tops in the major leagues. The 31- year-old moved one ahead of CC Sabathia, who has registered seven complete games with the Brewers and Indians. The right-hander fanned four, walked one and needed just 109 pitches for the outing, his second win in three starts. Alex Rios hit a two-run homer and Adam Lind smacked a solo shot for the Blue Jays, who have won four of five. Vernon Wells added an RBI single. Dustin Pedroia homered and Jason Bay collected a pair of hits for the Red Sox, whose four-game win streak was halted. Paul Byrd (7-11), in his Boston debut after coming over in a deal from Cleveland on Tuesday, was charged with 10 hits and four runs over 7 1/3 innings. He allowed two home runs while neither striking out nor walking a batter.

Michael Young went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for the Rangers, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Brandon Boggs also knocked in a run. Harrison (5-2) scattered three hits, fanning eight in his start, the first time this season he has failed to allow a run. Eddie Guardado pitched the ninth for his fourth save. Tampa starter Edwin Jackson (9-8) was charged with five hits and one run over six full frames in defeat for the Rays, whose three-game win streak was halted.
