San Diego, CA (Best E Casino) - The San Diego Padres recalled pitcher Chad Reineke to make a start Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies. To make room for Reineke, the team optioned reliever Cla Meredith to Triple-A Portland. Reineke, acquired from the Houston Astros in exchange for lefty Randy Wolf, will make his major league debut in Saturday's game. Since the trade, he has made three starts at Portland, going 0-1 with a 4.15 earned run average. In parts of five minor league seasons with the Astros and Padres organization, the 26-year-old has gone 28-33 with a 3.74 ERA. Meredith, 25, is 0-3 with a 3.99 ERA in 60 relief appearances for the Padres this season. He has 39 strikeouts and 22 walks in 56 1/3 innings pitched.
