Cleveland, OH (Best E Casino) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim placed shortstop Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a sprained left thumb, an injury that will require season-ending surgery for the everyday starter. Izturis left Wednesday's 10-7 loss to the Seattle Mariners in the top of the ninth after injuring the thumb diving for a ball. Results later revealed LA's No. 2 hitter tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, and the 27- year-old will have surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles that will keep him sidelined the rest of the year. For the season, Izturis is batting .269 with three homers, 37 RBI and 14 doubles. To fill the roster spot, Los Angeles recalled infielder Kendry Morales from Triple-A Salt Lake. Erick Aybar will take over the shortstop reigns and bat second in the Angels lineup.
