Oakland, CA (Best E Casino) - Andrew Walter was 10-of-12 passing for 82 yards and Johnnie Lee Higgins ran a punt back 53 yards for a touchdown as the Oakland Raiders made short work of the San Francisco 49ers, 18-6, in the preseason opener for both squads. JaMarcus Russell completed 2-of-5 passes for 13 yards, while Michael Bush had eight carries for 27 yards and a score and also added two catches for 29 yards, but did lose a fumble for the Raiders (1-0). Louis Rankin also had eight touches and gained 91 yards. Todd Watkins had three catches for 39 yards in the win. Aaron Elling hit his field goal attempt and his extra point try. Darren McFadden, Oakland's first round pick (fourth overall), had 12 carries for 48. Shaun Hill was 10-of-20 passing for 83 yards and an interception for the Niners (0-1). Thomas Clayton had five carries totaling 27 yards and caught three passes for 20 yards, while Josh Morgan caught four balls for 68 yards in defeat. Joe Nedney and Ricky Schmitt both went 1-for-1 on field goal attempts. With just under four minutes left in the half, Higgins ran back a 53-yard Andy Lee punt for a touchdown and a 7-0 Oakland lead. Nedney added a 22-yard field goal with 15 ticks left, and the Raiders led 7-3 heading into the break. Bush ran in a five-yard score with just under seven minutes on the clock, capping a drive that lasted 8:16 and traveled 75 yards in 13 plays. The Raiders connected on the two-point conversion to make it 15-3. Elling hit a 23-yard field goal with 11:38 left in the fourth, but Schmitt added a 38-yarder on San Fran's next possession to make it 18-6.
