The big left-hander has made six starts so far for his new ballclub and is 5-0 with a 1.88 earned run average. Sabathia already has three complete games and a shutout for Milwaukee, which is 5-1 when the former first-round draft pick takes the mound. He previously pitched last Saturday at Atlanta and held the Braves to a pair of runs and six hits over 8 1/3 innings for the win, while posting nine strikeouts and just one walk.

Sabathia, who is an impressive 8-0 over his last 10 starts versus the National League, lost his only appearance against the Washington franchise, back on June 21 of the 2002 campaign when the Nationals were still located in Montreal. The former Cleveland Indian allowed three runs through 7 1/3 innings of the Tribe's 3-1 setback to the Expos.

Milwaukee will try to maintain its one-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Wild Card standings on Friday. It has won two straight and four of its last six games, including Wednesday's 6-3 triumph over the Cincinnati Reds in the finale of a three-game set.

Rickie Weeks went 4-for-5 with two RBI and Jason Kendall added a two-run single for the Brewers, who remained five games behind the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central division. Starter Jeff Suppan hurled seven solid innings, yielding three runs on seven hits in seven innings for the win. Salomon Torres earned his 22nd save of the year with a perfect ninth.

Washington has been hot in August, having won six of its first seven games this month. It just swept the Colorado Rockies in a doubleheader on Thursday and won three of the four games in the series.

Wil Nieves and Willie Harris drove in two runs apiece to give the Nationals a 6-3 victory in Thursday's nightcap, while Lastings Milledge hit two homers and drove in a career-high four runs in to help Washington to a 6-3 win in the opener.

The Nationals will send rookie Collin Balester to the hill tonight, and he is 2-3 with a 4.55 earned run average over six starts. Balester was 0-3 in a four-start stretch before beating Cincinnati on Sunday with 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball. He allowed six hits, fanned five batters and walked two in a 4-2 triumph at Nationals Park.

The 2008 season series between Milwaukee and Washington is tied at two games apiece, as both teams split a four-game set in D.C. from May 23-26.
