Regina, SK (Best E Casino) - Joffrey Reynolds rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown and the Calgary Stampeders held off a furious fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Saskatchewan Roughriders, 30-25.
Henry Burris completed 22-of-33 passes for 214 yards with a passing touchdown, another score on the ground and two interceptions for the Stampeders (4-3), who avenged a one-point home loss to the Roughriders last week. Ken-Yon Rambo caught a touchdown pass while Sandro DeAngelis nailed three field goals in the victory.
Marcus Crandell finished 20-of-33 for 259 yards and two touchdowns for Saskatchewan (6-1), which lost for the first time this season. Weston Dressler and Adarius Bowman both caught a touchdown pass in the loss.
The Roughriders were held to 31 total rushing yards.
Saskatchewan trailed by 26 points as the final seconds ticked off the clock in the third quarter, but the home team and its supporting crowd came to life when a strange play resulted in a 52-yard touchdown for the Roughriders as time expired in the stanza.
Crandell's long pass down the left side was intended for Bowman, but the receiver was clearly in double coverage. The ball tipped off the hands off both Calgary defenders and directly into the hands of Bowman, who raced untouched into the end zone.
The Roughriders defense held on Calgary's ensuing possession and the Stampeders set up to punt. However, Renauld Williams blocked the attempt, and the ball rolled 20-plus yards into the end zone before fullback Chris Szarka fell on it for the Saskatchewan touchdown that drew the hosts within 30-18.
But the momentum was short-lived. On Saskatchewan's next offensive possession, Crandell threw an interception. The play was a fade pass down the right sideline, but Crandell underthrew it and Brandon Browner leaped and picked it off.
The Stamps offense again stalled, though, and the Roughriders got the ball back with five minutes remaining in regulation. Crandell scrambled for a first down in the middle of the field before he connected on a 25-yard scoring strike to Dressler -- who was double-covered -- in the back of the end zone with 2:15 on the clock.
However, Burris and the Stamps were able to get a key first down and ran out the clock to hold on the for the win.
The hosts held a 4-0 lead in the early going, but Burris led the Stampeders on a solid drive before his touchdown run capped it with 5:15 to go in the first quarter. From the 11-yard line, Burris took the snap from the shotgun and looked for an open receiver. With nobody open, Burris eluded pressure, moved to his left and scampered into the end zone just inside the front left pylon.
The second quarter belonged to DeAngelis, who booted three field goals to boost Calgary's lead to 16-4. The former Nebraska Cornhusker made good on attempts from 46, 20 and 43 yards.
Reynolds' three-yard touchdown run with under a minute to go in the half gave the visitors a 23-4 advantage.
The lone score of the mostly defensive third quarter occurred with 2:05 remaining in the stanza. Burris found Rambo open in the end zone from nine yards out and the Stamps held a 30-4 lead.
