(Best E Casino) - The
Washington Nationals take aim at their season-best fifth straight win this evening when they continue a four-game series with the
Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
Washington continued to roll in Monday's opener, as Willie Harris and Jesus Flores each homered, helping the Nats to a 9-4 victory.
One of baseball's worst teams knocked around one of baseball's best pitchers on Monday night, as the suddenly hot Nationals belted 11 hits off Aaron Cook (14-7), scoring seven runs -- four earned -- off the right-hander while walking once and striking out three times.
Emilio Bonifacio finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, Harris drove home three and scored twice and Alberto Gonzalez, acquired just before the deadline in a deal with the Yankees, went 2-for-3 before leaving the game in the sixth frame with an apparent leg injury.
Tim Redding (8-6) was the benefactor, pitching five-plus frames and allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
Brad Hawpe drove home two runs and Matt Holliday added an RBI for the Rockies, who scored three runs before an out was recorded in this contest, but only mustered one run and four hits the rest of the way.
Hoping to keep the Nats in the win column this evening will be lefty John Lannan, who will be facing the Rockies for the first time in his career. Lannan lost his second straight start on Thursday against Philadelphia, as he allowed eight runs (six earned) and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings, dropping him to 6-11, while raising his ERA to 3.61.
Colorado will pin its hopes on lefty Jorge De La Rosa, who is 5-6 with a 6.94. De La Rosa was charged with the loss after an abysmal effort against the Florida Marlins on Thursday, as he was pounded for seven runs and five hits in just 1 2/3 innings.
De La Rosa lost his only other start to the Nats, serving up five runs (four earned) and six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Colorado has won seven of eight over the Nationals at home and took the season series between the two clubs, 4-3, last year after winning all three tests at Coors.
