New York, NY (Best E Casino) - New York Yankees outfielder Xavier Nady and Kansas City Royals infielder Mike Aviles were named the co-Players of the Week in the American League for the period ending August 3. Nady, acquired by the Yankees from Pittsburgh before the trade deadline, batted .526 with 10 hits in 19 at-bats last week. He belted three homers, drove in 10 runs and registered a 1.158 slugging percentage for his second weekly award this season. His first came during the first week of the campaign with the Pirates. During a four-game weekend series against the Angels, Nady was 7-for-11 with two homers and seven runs batted in. He drove in six of those runs in Sunday's finale. Aviles hit .577 with 15 hits in 26 at-bats last week. He clubbed a pair of homers, three doubles and a triple with five runs batted in, while posting a 1.000 slugging percentage. The 27-year-old New York native was 8-for-14 during a three-game series against Oakland, then followed with a 7-for-12 effort against the White Sox. Others considered for this week's award were Yankees outfielder Bobby Abreu, who hit four homers, drove in nine runs and batted .444; Cleveland's Kelly Shoppach, who batted .440 with four homers and five doubles; Toronto's A.J. Burnett, who was 2-0 with a 2.84 earned run average and 14 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings; Cleveland's Paul Byrd, who was 2-0 with an ERA of 0.61; and Baltimore's Jeremy Guthrie, who was 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA and a complete game.
