(Best E Casino) - Joe Saunders will try to make the Baltimore Orioles his latest victim when the standout hurler takes the mound tonight for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the first of three straight meetings between the teams.

Saunders will also be attempting to match Arizona ace Brandon Webb's major- league leading total of 15 wins during this evening's tilt. The Angels' All- Star lefty comes in with a 14-5 record and a 3.09 earned run average in 21 starts this season and has posted victories in each of his last two outings.

Cleveland's Cliff Lee and Colorado's Aaron Cook will also be aiming for their 15th wins tonight.

Saunders baffled the Boston Red Sox Wednesday at Fenway Park to earn win No. 14. The 27-year-old yielded just two runs and five hits before being removed after six innings of Anaheim's 9-2 triumph.

Prior to that start, Saunders was the winning pitcher in a 6-5 decision over the Orioles at Camden Yards. In that July 25 game, the Virginia Tech product allowed four runs (3 earned) through 6 2/3 innings.

Saunders has won all four of his career starts against Baltimore despite pitching to a mediocre 5.16 ERA over the span of those games.

He will also be put in charge of ending a rare losing streak for the Angels, owners of baseball's best overall record at 69-42. Both defeats came at the hands of the New York Yankees in the Bronx, including Sunday's 14-9 setback in the finale of the four-game series.

Mark Teixeira belted his first home run as an Angel, a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning that gave Anaheim a short-lived 9-8 lead. However, New York countered with six runs against the Angels bullpen in the bottom of the frame to move back ahead.

Anaheim was plagued by sloppy defense in the game's late stages, as the team committed three errors in the bottom of the eighth to aid the Yankees' rally. Losing pitcher Scot Shields (4-3) was charged with five runs allowed, but none were earned due to the miscues.

Chone Figgins went 4-for-5 with three runs scored for the Angels, while Erick Aybar collected a pair of hits and knocked in three runs.

Baltimore has gone 4-2 thus far on its current nine-game road trip and won the first two tests in this past weekend's series with Seattle. The Mariners averted the sweep, however, with an 8-4 victory on Sunday.

Seattle scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by Raul Ibanez's two-RBI single, to snap a 4-4 deadlock.

O's starter Daniel Cabrera (7-7) received the loss after surrendering seven runs (6 earned) over six-plus innings of work.

Kevin Millar and Brian Roberts each had two hits and an RBI for Baltimore, which lost for only the second time in its last seven games.

Dennis Sarfate is set to make his second start of the season for the Orioles after pitching 45 consecutive games as a reliever. The right-hander lasted four innings in his starting debut, which took place in Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, and gave up five runs -- three earned -- while issuing three walks in his team's 13-3 loss to New York. Sarfate did match a career high with five strikeouts, however.

The 27-year-old prepared for that assignment by tossing 3 1/3 hitless innings against the Angels in a long-relief role on July 25.

Anaheim has won four of its six encounters with the Orioles this season and is 14-5 over the last 19 overall matchups in this series. Since the start of the 2006 campaign, Baltimore has lost in 10 of its 13 visits to Angel Stadium.
