New York Yankees rally past Los Angeles, 14-9, in a wild affair at Yankee Stadium. The Angels had just taken a 9-8 lead in the top of the eighth on Mark Teixeira's fourth career grand slam, but the Yankees counter- punched with six runs in their half of the eighth. Scot Shields (4-3) started the inning for the Halos and Ivan Rodriguez greeted him with a single. Melky Cabrera then reached on Erick Aybar's fielding error, and Jeff Mathis' throwing error on a double steal allowed the tying run to score. A pair of walks to Johnny Damon and Bobby Abreu loaded the bases for Alex Rodriguez, who hit a chopper to third that Chone Figgins misplayed. Darren Oliver was called on from the bullpen and promptly served up a two-run single to Robinson Cano. Nady continued the assault with an RBI single and, after Richie Sexson was caught looking at strike three, Justin Christian, who pinch- ran for Ivan Rodriguez, stroked a single to right for a 14-9 lead. Jose Veras closed out the game for New York in the ninth. Nady finished 4-for-5 with a three-run homer and a career-high six runs batted in for the Yankees, who salvaged a split in the four-game series. The comeback made a winner out of Edwar Ramirez (3-0), who gave up the home run to Teixeira in the eighth. Boston, MA (Best E Casino) - Daisuke Matsuzaka tossed six solid innings, and Jed Lowrie smashed a key two-run triple as the Boston Red Sox downed the Oakland Athletics, 5-2, to complete a three-game sweep at Fenway Park. Matsuzaka (12-2) rebounded from a loss to the Angels on Monday by allowing just four hits and striking out eight while walking two for the Red Sox, winners of three straight after dropping five of their previous six. After Miguel Cabrera's lead-off home run in the top of the 10th off Troy Percival gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead, the Rays took advantage of a wild Fernando Rodney (0-3) to mount a comeback in the bottom half. Pinch- hitter Willy Aybar walked to begin the frame, bringing Jason Bartlett to the plate. Bartlett squared to bunt and Rodney drilled him on his right hand. Shawn Riggans replaced the injured shortstop, and Rodney plunked him with the very next pitch. Riggans stayed down for a few minutes, but eventually made his way to first. After Akinori Iwamura bunted the runners over, B.J. Upton walked to the load the bases for Carl Crawford, who drove in the tying run with a single to left. One out later, Pena walked to force in the winning run. Upton finished 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer for the Rays, who have won five in a row overall and own a three-game lead over the Boston Red Sox for first place in the AL East. Trever Miller (1-0) recorded the last two outs in the 10th to get the win for Tampa Bay. Miller did not have a decision in his previous 121 outings -- a major league record -- dating to a victory over the Atlanta Braves on September 30, 2006 as a member of the Houston Astros. Zack Greinke (9-7) pitched an excellent game before being ejected in the seventh for hitting Nick Swisher. The righty went 6 1/3 innings, giving up two runs and six hits and fanning six in the process. Greinke has now won two consecutive starts for the first time since June 19-24. Aviles finished the day 4-for-4 with three RBI and Billy Butler went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Miguel Olivo chipped in three RBI to give the Royals their sixth win in seven games. Clayton Richard (0-2) had a tough outing in his second career start. The lefty threw only 4 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs -- six earned -- on 11 hits while striking out one and walking one. A.J. Pierzynski homered and added two hits while Dewayne Wise and Toby Hall each added an RBI for the White Sox. With the Royals handing Chicago its six loss in eight games and Minnesota's win over Cleveland, the White Sox have fallen out of first place for the first time since May 17.

Nick Punto and Mike Lamb had run-scoring triples for the Twins, who have won seven of their last nine games. Liriano (1-3) earned the win after pitching six solid innings. The young left- hander, who was making his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Rochester, allowed only three hits and struck out five while walking three. He improved to 2-2 in six lifetime games versus Cleveland. Ben Francisco hit a solo homer and Grady Sizemore had an RBI double for the Indians, who have dropped four of their last six. Silva struck out two and walked one in his longest outing since going eight innings on July 8 against Oakland. Ibanez finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs batted in while Jeremy Reed drove home two more runs for the Mariners, who have won two of their last four contests. Daniel Cabrera (7-7) pitched well before stumbling in the seventh inning, going six-plus innings, surrendering seven runs and seven hits. He fanned six and walked two as the Orioles lost for the second time in four games. Kevin Millar and Brian Roberts had two hits apiece, and each had a run scored and an RBI. Luke Scott and Guillermo Quiroz also added an RBI each for the Orioles.
