(Best E Casino) - Journeyman right-hander Jason Johnson faces Arizona for the second time in three weeks today, when the
Los Angeles Dodgers host the Diamondbacks in the finale of a four-game series between National League West Division powers at Dodger Stadium.
Arizona entered the series with a one-game edge in the division and has stretched it to two by winning two of the first three games. However, on Saturday newest Dodger acquisition Manny Ramirez played his second game with the team, going 2-for-4 with his first NL home run in L.A.'s 4-2 win.
Hiroki Kuroda (6-8) may have been outshined by Ramirez, but earned his first win since July 7 after allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings for Los Angeles.
Recently acquired Casey Blake doubled and homered for the victors.
Yusmeiro Petit (1-2), in his third start this season, was charged with the loss, giving up three runs on five hits through five innings. Miguel Montero recorded a solo shot for Arizona, which had won seven of eight coming in.
Johnson, who'll turn 35 in October, initially reached the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1997 and has since pitched for Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Detroit, Boston, Cleveland and Cincinnati.
He split the 2006 season between the Red Sox, Indians and Reds, then was out of the big leagues in 2007 before resurfacing with the Dodgers in a relief role against the Diamondbacks on July 18.
He allowed three hits and a run over three innings in that game, an 8-7 L.A. win, then gave up two hits and a run in four innings of the team's 10-1 loss at Colorado on July 22.
His lone start of the season came July 29 against San Francisco, when he scattered five hits over six innings while picking up a 2-0 decision over the Giants.
Johnson is 1-2 lifetime against Arizona with a 2.74 earned run average in 23 innings over four games.
Diamondbacks southpaw Doug Davis started the aforementioned July 18 game with the Dodgers and allowed five hits and four earned runs in three innings, getting a no-decision.
He's 1-1 in two starts since, allowing seven hits and four runs in 14 2/3 innings of work.
He is 4-2 in seven career starts against Los Angeles with a 2.06 ERA over 43 2/3 innings.
Davis is 2-2 in seven road starts in 2008.
Arizona has won seven of 11 from the Dodgers this season.
