(Best E Casino) - The
Baltimore Orioles try to continue their mastery this season of the
Seattle Mariners when the cellar dwellers of their respective divisions complete a three-game series at Safeco Field.
The Orioles are 8-1 against the Mariners this season, including wins in four of their five visits to the Emerald City. Baltimore also swept a four-game series from the M's at Camden Yards from April 4-7.
That trend continued in the second game of this set on Saturday, as Jeremy Guthrie threw the first complete game of his career to help Baltimore to a 3-1 win. Aubrey Huff and Melvin Mora each had a pair of hits and drove in a run while Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for the Orioles, who have won five of their last six.
Guthrie (8-8) gave up just one run on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Raul Ibanez drove in the lone run while Felix Hernandez (7-7) was saddled with the loss for giving up two runs on eight hits in just five innings of work for the Mariners, who have dropped four of five and 11 of 14.
Hoping to complete the sweep for the Orioles this afternoon will be right- hander Daniel Cabrera, who is 7-6 with a 4.81 earned run average. Cabrera got the win on Tuesday against the New York Yankees, as he allowed three runs and eight hits in seven-plus innings before being thrown out of the game for throwing at Alex Rodriguez.
Cabrera defeated the M's the last time he faced them and is 6-1 lifetime against them with a 4.32 ERA in 10 starts.
Seattle will counter with veteran right-hander Carlos Silva, who is a miserable 4-12 with a 5.95 ERA. Silva was hammered in his last start on Tuesday in Texas, as the Rangers roughed him up for six runs and seven hits in just 2 1/3 innings. However, his offense bailed him out of that one and he did not get a decision in his team's 11-10 loss.
Over his last 16 starts Silva is 1-12 with a 7.57 ERA.
Silva has faced the Orioles 14 times (eight starts) and is 1-4 against them with a 4.50 ERA.
Seattle went 7-2 in the 2007 season series with Baltimore.
