Boston, MA (Best E Casino) - The Oakland Athletics activated first baseman Daric Barton from the 15-day disabled list Friday. Barton had been placed on the DL on July 19 due to a neck strain. In 36 games with Oakland, the infielder was batting .224 with three home runs and 25 RBI. In related moves, the A's recalled infielder Gregorio Petit from Triple-A Sacramento and placed pitcher Andrew Brown on the 15-day DL retroactive to July 26 with right shoulder soreness. This is Petit's third stint this season with Oakland. He hit .333 in his first call-up, then .400 in his second trial. Brown is headed to the DL for the second time this season. He is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 31 appearances in 2008.
