Hamilton, ON (Best E Casino) - Ricky Ray threw for 356 yards and the game- winning touchdown in the fourth quarter, as the Edmonton Eskimos won a defensive struggle over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 19-13, at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
Ray finished 28-for-47 with an interception for the Eskimos (3-2), who have won three of their last four. Kelly Campbell caught five passes for 119 yards and a touchdown, while Kamau Peterson grabbed eight passes for 104 yards. Noel Prefontaine added four key field goals to provide much of Edmonton's offense.
Eskimos slotback Jason Tucker was taken off the field in an ambulance early in the fourth quarter after a scary helmet-to-helmet collision with Tiger-Cats defensive back Jykine Bradley. Tucker was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, but was able to move his extremities and could fly back to Edmonton with the team on Sunday.
Jesse Lumsden carried the ball 10 times for 55 yards and a score for the Tiger-Cats (1-4), losers of three straight. Prechae Rodriguez added 10 catches for 155 yards. Richie Williams completed 7-of-11 passes for 138 yards in relief of starting signal-caller Casey Printers, who left with a right hand injury early in the fourth quarter after going 11-of-20 for 127 yards.
The teams traded field goals throughout the first three quarters, with a Prefontaine 29-yarder giving the Eskimos a 9-6 lead shortly into the fourth. However, Lumsden gave Hamilton the lead just over a minute into the final stanza, bursting up the middle for a 29-yard score.
However, Ray led the Eskimos back down the field, connecting with Campbell from 11 yards out with just over seven minutes left to put Edmonton back on top.
Prefontaine added a field goal in the waning seconds to open up a six-point lead, and Williams was intercepted in the final moments trying to lead a last- gasp drive as the Eskimos held on for victory.
Neither team could muster much offense in the first half, as Prefontaine nailed a pair of field goals -- while Hamilton kicker Nick Setta booted one -- to send the Eskimos into intermission with a 6-3 lead.
