Seattle, WA (Best E Casino) - Seattle Mariners rookie catcher Jeff Clement left Tuesday's game against the Boston Red Sox prior to the third inning after attempting to catch a foul ball hit by J.D. Drew. With two outs in the top of the second, Drew fouled a ball behind home plate which Clement chased to the backstop. The catcher tried to brace himself by putting his right hand through the protective screen, but the ball came down and clipped his hand on the other side of the screen. Clement appeared to be favoring his thumb and had the finger taped. He finished the top of the second and struck out in the home portion before being replaced behind the plate by Kenji Johjima.
