St. Petersburg, FL (Best E Casino) - The Oakland Athletics selected infielder Brooks Conrad from Triple-A Sacramento and designated infielder Donnie Murphy for assignment on Monday. Conrad made his MLB debut in the A's 4-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, going 0- for-3 with a pair of strikeouts. Originally an eighth-round draft pick of the Houston Astros in 2001, Conrad was signed by Oakland to a minor league contract on December 8, 2007. Conrad, 28, was hitting .242 with 21 home runs and 67 RBI in 93 games at the time of his promotion. He was leading the River Cats in hits (88), home runs and RBI and was tied for the lead in doubles (21). Murphy batted .188 (19-for-101) with three home runs and 13 RBI in 42 games for Oakland. Murphy was placed on the disabled list on May 18 with right elbow inflammation and reinstated on June 20.
