Phoenix, AZ (Best E Casino) - Ramon Troncoso picked up his first major league win and Russell Martin drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, and the
Los Angeles Dodgers used a five-run ninth to edge the
Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-5, in the rubber match of a weekend set.
Troncoso (1-1) earned the win by tossing two innings and fanning five batters. Jonathan Broxton got his second save of the year despite giving up a run in the ninth. Derek Lowe lasted 5 1/3 innings and was touched for four runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking three. The win allowed the Dodgers to move into a tie with Arizona for the top spot in the NL West.
"This was a tremendous win," Lowe said. "It was very good from my standpoint. The only pitch I could throw for a strike was the curveball and that was all I kept throwing."
Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Andruw Jones each had a hit and an RBI for the Dodgers, who have won 3-of-4 overall. Blake DeWitt also drove in a run and Andy LaRoche had a pinch-hit RBI.
Stephen Drew and Mark Reynolds had a triple and an RBI apiece for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped 3-of-4.
Brandon Lyon (2-4) absorbed the loss as he gave up five runs on five hits in the ninth. Lyon has yielded seven runs in his last two outings. Brandon Webb was in shape to become MLB's first 14-game winner before the blown save, going eight frames on just one run and six hits, fanning four and walking three.
Lyon took the hill for Arizona in the ninth and gave up a lead off double to Nomar Garciaparra and then a single to James Loney. Jones grounded out, which plated Garciaparra and moved Loney to second. DeWitt grounded to Drew for the second out but pinch-hitter LaRoche smacked an RBI single to right to make it a one-run game. Kemp then doubled to center, which scored pinch-runner Pablo Ozuna, tying the ballgame at four.
Ethier kept it going with an RBI triple before Leo Rosales was called on in relief. Martin capped the scoring with an RBI single to give LA a 6-4 lead.
"It took us nine innings to get the big runs, but we got those runs to win the game," Kemp said.
Broxton took the mound for the Dodgers to try and close it out and got Chris Snyder to go down swinging. Pinch-hitter Chad Tracy worked a seven-pitch walk, but Augie Ojeda grounded to Garciaparra for the second out. Drew singled to left which scored pinch-runner Emilio Bonifacio, but Conor Jackson grounded into a fielder's choice to end the game.
The D'Backs jumped on top in the first inning. The bases were loaded as Drew and Jackson singled and Orlando Hudson walked. Tony Clark grounded out, which allowed Drew to score, before Reynolds and Chris Young hit consecutive RBI singles to make it 3-0.
Arizona jumped on top 4-0 in the sixth inning. Reynolds led off with a triple and Young went down swinging before Brian Falkenborg was called on in relief of Lowe. Snyder then offered a sac bunt to plate Reynolds.
The Dodgers got on the board in the seventh frame. Loney hit a one-out double and moved to third as Jones followed with a single. DeWitt then grounded into a run-scoring ground out to make it 4-1.
