Calgary, AB (Best E Casino) - Joffrey Reynolds rushed for 96 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Calgary Stampeders to a 43-16 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Henry Burris completed 26-of-33 passes for 345 yards and two touchdowns for the Stampeders (3-1), who have won two straight and will travel to Winnipeg next Thursday. Nik Lewis caught nine passes for 125 yards and two scores while Ken-Ron Rambo hauled in six passes for 127 yards in the win.
Casey Printers finished 17-of-26 and 209 yards passing for Hamilton (1-3), which dropped to 1-1 on the road this season. Terry Caulley notched a rushing touchdown, as did Printers, in the losing effort.
The only touchdown of the first quarter was Reynolds' 14-yard run on the heels of a six-play, 78-yard drive that included a key pass from Burris to Rambo that kept the drive alive on third down.
Calgary led 10-2 after the first quarter -- a pair of singles by Hamilton and a 20-yard boot by Calgary kicker Sandro DeAngelis accounted for the other points in the opening stanza -- and took firm control of the game in the second with 17 points.
Following a 44-yard field goal by DeAngelis, Burris connected with Lewis on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 9:19 to go in the second stanza. Printers plunged into the end zone from the one-yard line with under four minutes to go before the half, but Burris and Lewis hooked up once again from 16 yards out with two minutes remaining as the Stampeders took a 27-9 lead into the break.
The Tiger-Cats showed signs of life on their opening drive of the third quarter. They used a quick, three-play scoring drive that culminated with a 10-yard TD scamper by Caulley to climb within 27-16. The key play was a 54- yard pass from Printers to Prechae Rodriguez, who made a nice diving catch before Caulley finished it off from the 10.
But Hamilton could not overcome the bad start and Calgary continued to pour it on as the third quarter wore on. Two separate one-yard TD runs by Reynolds put the game out of reach.
First, with 7:25 on the clock in the third, Reynolds capped a 10-play, 70-yard scoring drive with the short plunge that put the Stamps ahead by a 34-16 margin. Later in the frame, a clock-eating five-plus minute drive that totaled 87 yards and eight plays was finished by another one-yard scamper by Reynolds.
Two conceded singles for Calgary capped the scoring.
