Boston, MA (Best E Casino) - The Boston Bruins signed forward Blake Wheeler to an entry-level contract on Tuesday. Wheeler has spent the last three seasons at the University of Minnesota. He led the Golden Gophers in scoring last season with 15 goals and 35 points in 44 games. The Plymouth, Minnesota native was originally the fifth-overall draft pick by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2004. After deciding to forego his senior season to enter the NHL, then opting not to sign with Phoenix, Wheeler became an unrestricted free agent. The 6-foot-4, 215 pound forward tallied 42 goals and 54 assists for 96 points in 127 games at Minnesota. As a freshman, he played with current Bruins forward Phil Kessel.
