New York, NY (Best E Casino) - The New York Yankees placed outfielder Hideki Matsui on the 15-day disabled list Friday with left knee inflation. Matsui, who has not played since June 22 in Cincinnati, is batting .323 in 69 games this season with seven home runs and 34 RBI. Matsui had fluid drained from the knee last week to try to prevent a stint on the DL, but he still cannot balance his weight at the plate. To take his spot on the roster, the Yankees officially purchased the contract of Sidney Ponson, who got the win in Friday night's 9-0 victory over the Mets at Shea Stadium in the second game of a double-header. Ponson gave up five hits over six innings. The Yankees made another move on Friday, optioning relief pitcher Ross Ohlendorf to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In a related move, they recalled lefthanded pitcher Kei Igawa, who gave up two hits in the ninth.
