(Best E Casino) - Youngster Daryl Thompson gets his first taste of an all- Ohio rivalry when he goes to the mound for the Cincinnati Reds in game one of their interleague series with the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.

Thompson made a big splash in his major league debut six days ago, blanking the New York Yankees on four hits over five innings as the Reds earned a 6-0 victory at Yankee Stadium.

A 6-foot, 180-pound right-hander who was a former draft pick of the Montreal Expos (eighth round, 2003), Thompson struck out two batters and walked four.

He'll be opposed by Cleveland's C.C. Sabathia, who's 2-0 in seven career starts in the series with the Reds.

Sabathia, an imposing 6-foot-7, 290-pound southpaw, has pitched 43 2/3 innings against Cincinnati, allowing 35 hits and 13 earned runs, while walking 15 batters and striking out 44.

He's held the Reds to a batting average of just .223.

Overall, Sabathia has pitched better as the trade deadline has neared and rumors of his imminent departure from Cleveland have heated up.

He was 3-8 after a 9-4 loss in Texas on June 5, but has gone 2-0 with a no- decision in three starts since, allowing just 16 hits and four runs in 24 innings, with 25 strikeouts.

On Thursday in Toronto, Jesse Litsch pitched eight strong innings as the Blue Jays wrapped up a three-game set against the Reds with a 7-1 win.

Edinson Volquez (10-3) had his worst start of the season as he gave up seven runs -- five earned -- on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of work while Brandon Phillips drove in the lone run for the Reds, who have dropped three of their last four.

In Cleveland, Cliff Lee didn't let a rain delay nearing two hours stop his season-long momentum, as the southpaw struck out a career-best 11 Giants over eight frames in Cleveland's 4-1 victory over San Francisco.

Rain delayed the first pitch of the series finale one hour, 42 minutes before Lee (11-1) brought his best stuff in the hill, remaining unbeaten over his last seven starts.

He lowered his ERA below 2.00 at home this season, scattering four hits and one run with one walk. Joe Borowski nailed down his sixth save with a perfect ninth.

Jamey Carroll and Kelly Shoppach accounted for most of the offensive firepower, as the Indians snapped a three-game losing streak. Carroll finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and Shoppach also collected two hits and scored twice.

Cincinnati swept a three-game set from the Indians earlier in the season.
