Houston, TX (Best E Casino) - The Houston Astros have placed pitcher Shawn Chacon on waivers a day after a reported confrontation with the team's general manager, Ed Wade. "His defiance of the manager, the pitching coach, me, and especially the organization led us to this decision," Wade said. Wade claimed he never made any physical contact nor did he shout at Chacon, who, according to Wade, shoved the general manager to the ground and shoved him again as he began to get up in a pre-game meeting in manager Cecil Cooper's office on Wednesday. Wade also claimed Chacon refused to throw a bullpen session and turned his back to pitching coach Dewey Robinson during a mound visit on June 1. Chacon, who is 2-3 with a 5.04 earned run average in 15 starts this season, was dropped from the rotation on Sunday after allowing six runs against Baltimore on June 19. The 30-year-old right-hander was 0-3 with a 9.35 ERA in June. Chacon signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Astros in the offseason. The eight-year pro holds a 45-61 record and a 4.99 ERA in 269 games (134 starts) with the Rockies, Yankees, Pirates and Astros.
